Daiwa AIRD
I have just bought a Diawa AIRD in the 4000 size that also comes with a spare 3500 spool(havent loaded it yet). For the price you get them they are AWESOME. With a 6.2 ratio and 9 bearings they are smooth and ideal for chasing Tailor, Salmon etc.
Used it today on a very gutterless n non whitewater Stockton Beach. I didnt catch anything, but tried to suss how the reel went with various lures. Started with Damiki vibes(the bigger size) and was happy how quick the line was retrieved after zipping the rod tip to work the lure. Hooked a smallish Salmon that took the vibe on the drop. It quickly headed for the surface then spat the hooks on a small jump(my fault for not winding). Next off was metal slices of various weights and you could see the pace of each coming back through the water(no followers). Anyhow, the reel functioned well, the drag was smooth(I backed it off after hooking the salmon just to feel it for smoothness). So all in all Im happy with my purchase and am looking to buy 1 in a smaller size(2000) for some serious Bass fishing in rough country. Cheers Gav. |

looks like a 1500 is on the cards if it comes with a 2000 spool. Put fluoro on 1500 n 3.3lb Exceed on the other. Excellent. Yep, gonna give the Shimano mob a run. Just wish they continued the Seido n got rid of the rest up to the Symetre. Great little reels the Seidos, just one reason why my smaller reels are mostly Daiwa. Cheers Gav.

I filled my aird with the whole spool of 6.6lb exceed and no backing and it filled up great.. although that was with the smaller of the two spools it came with (the 1500 size spool) I am yet to spool up the other as I have just poured a fair few dollars into my latest rod

For those who bought them - any issues yet or are they still all good?
After i sell off a few reels i no longer use, i'm looking at getting one for my yak fishing. They seem to be good for the price you pay. |
