Curious cod caught when bass fishing

My Mate caught this when bass fishing in some skinny water up in the back hills with me last week.
To me looks like some sort of cod but nothing like i have seen in pure fresh water.

Any ideas on this

Dan

Yeh, it looks a little like a Bullrout to me... http://www.marinescience.mq.edu.au/f...ion%20(81).htm

I have not ever seen one that big though.. The ones I'v seen were only 5-7cm in length..

If that is what it is, the spines on the fins contain a venom, and the sting is very, very painful, so I would suggest not handling them..

Interesting catch though..

Yeee, still a stonker fish but... Also urs was fatter mine was longer (hmmm haha)..

Yea they are poisonous, quite a nasty spike if ever ur that unlucky then they ache for hours, starts to hurt in your joints as it travels around the body.. Some of the pro fishos I know have been done by them...

Weird though getting it on a spinner bait in straight fresh, normally that sort of species hang around brackish waters?
