Shimano 2000 size reels?

Yep, I know they're generally unavailable in this country, especially in the better models, but I wonder why. Shimano definately makes them and in many different models too, but they're not imported by the Australian distributors.

There have been numerous occasions when I've been looking to buy a new reel for a specific purpose. Many times I've found that the 1000 size is just too small for the job and the 2500 size is just a little too large. A 2000 size reel (Shimano sizing) would have been perfect for the job, but you just can't get them here.

I wonder how much money Australian tackle shops are missing out on as a result of this limiting of our choices by the Australian distributor. I, for one, have simply bought them directly from overseas, but I would have prefered to have bought them locally.

We are spoilt for choice when it comes to models. There's heaps of different models available, but we're certainly not spoilt when it comes to the choice of sizes available. The distributor must think we're a complacent lot.

Personally, I think a Shimano 2000 is a great size for a bream reel.

Mick

Tell me about it. I hate that we cant get 2000's locally. That and shallow spool models. You'd think they would have caught on by now that we want these?

... hence we import them and the local distributor loses out AND we get a better price! We win, they lose!

True
I think Shimano Australia should have had a
New sustain made in a 2000 size. Looks great
Perfect size not as heavy as the 2500.
I think it would have walked off the shelf

lol... I've just finished re-spooling a 2000s stella for Barra. Its perfect for flicking unweighted stickbaits. I've been using 2500 - 3000 sized Daiwas (a hyper exist, an old certate and aTeam Daiwa-Z 2506c Type-R plus) fishing for Barra in the NT, and i must say i was surprised, returning to the 2000 stella, at its smoothness and balance.
I think the market is just too small in Australia for Shimano to warrant distributing its awesome, high end japanese rods and reels. This is, of course, disappointing... but all can be sourced from Japan, and infinitely cheaper than they'd sell here. I've never had a problem getting my JDM stellas serviced by shimano here.

where do you source your reels from? Every JDM stella I've seen costs about the same, if not more than our stella's. Am I just looking in the wrong places?

I paid through the nose for my 2000 FE Stella from Plat. Something like $817. Worth every penny though. Perfect size and weight.

I was simply stating that they're currently more expensive t buy from japan. I wasn't saying he got ripped off, nor was I trying to make him feel bad. In fact if he did buy it when the dollar was low, then he still got himself a bargain as up until a month or so ago stella's were $850 here.

When I was buying, they didn't have the normal 2000. Also, they are never in stock there.
