Trangia stoves
Been away a couple of time camping/kayaking and impressed by the ease etc of people with trangia stoves. Looking at purchasing the mini version but interested to hear anyone's pro or cons on them ??

ive used then on my last 4 out door ed camps at school they're lite and compact and they seem to cook very efficiently perfect for kayak trips only problems ive had using them is they can be a little too small at times if your cooking for 3 or more people then you'll need 2

As an outdoor education instructor working for a private school, I have had a Trangia mini set (With the kettle) for many years. I have also used mine on fishing trips away with my father when I cooked for two people out of my set.
I cannot recommend a Trangia stove set highly enough. They are an asset to anyone camping in the outdoors. |

Don't use the cap with the Oring untill the burner is out and cool! The burner will melt the rubber Oring. The burner will leak and everything in your bag will smell like metho.

+ 1 for the trangia. I have 3. The big one for trekking with others, the small one for solo and the mini which i got in indonesia. the mini one is just the burner, a pot, gripper and a little stand without the windbreak like the other models. Weighs less than a third of the small trangia and i only use that one for solo hiking now to save weight. My oldest one is about 12years old, has cooked literally hundreds of meals and ive never had any problem.
Actually i do remember 1 problem. At altitudes over around 3000m above sea level they go a bit iffy and take VERY long to boil water. the best way to fix this is use white spirits or shellite fuel instead of metho at high altitudes. Be careful with the shellite though. its rather flammable. In fact DONT use shellite in your trangia while in a rocking boatunless you aspire to win the darwin awards

Trangias are good and i do have one although i prefer the easy of the screw in little gas bottles and burner tops. Plenty of heat quickly, dont have to worry about spilling flammable liquid and very robuts.

They are very good - I lived out of one for 8 months whilst in Sudan a few years back.
As mentioned though, the pressurised fuel burner is a better bet than the drop-in one and will burn on any fuel. The MSR gear is also good. cheers
