New rod for the surf?
I'm needing to get a new rod for the surf and only have $350 budget (Rod and reel). Need something nice and light for placcies and metal slugs etc.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks fellas |

Maybe one of the shimano aerowave graphite rods (I think that's what they are called) with a stradic fi. $200 ish + $159 = roughly your budget, not to sure about the price of the rod though. Otherwise maybe look at the sensor surf or heartland surf rods. Good luck

either a sensor surf or a sea jigger
both good for throwing slugs, no 10 ft surf rod will be great with placcies though. |

Thanks fellas you have given me a few good ideas. Will check out all the above mentioned rods and see what suits me the most.

Daiwa Seajigger rods are probably the best surf spinning rods out there. They come in three different weights. They might be a little outside your budget though at around $250. Shimano have a nice little 9 foot surf spinning rod called the Starlo Classic which is only around $100. Samaki also have a rod which is suitable for chucking smaller slugs a mile. They sell for around $170 or so. These are a particularly nice feeling rod.
I'd team up any one of the above rods with a Shimano Stradic Ci4 4000 spooled up with almost 300 metres of 7kg braid. Mick |
