2500 Ci4 vs 2000 sol??

Hey,

Just wondering which you would go for out of these 2???

They would be going on a 7ft daiwa spellbinder 3-6 for now but wanting a decent reel now to keep till I can afford to upgrade the rod.

Both great reels, sol is smoother and has a spare spool but ci4 is sooooo much lighter. If you aren't interested in keeping the reel on the spellbinder than i wouldn't recommend bothering to balance them with it. Perhaps you could think ahead about the rod you will want to buy in the future and balance them with that to find which reels matches the best. Both the sol and the ci4 are old reels now so you should be able to get them fairly cheap. The ci4 has dropped in price by about $100 over the past 6 months. Good luck, I don't think you will be dissapointed with either of those reels.

Given the rod is 3-6kg, I'd go the CI4 because it has 7kg of drag. You would be able to target a wider variety of fish.

Have had both on the rod which both made the rod tip heavy as I thought they would. But I would rather put up with that until I can upgrade the rod then settle for something cheaper that will balance and suit this rod. I may be getting the ci4 really cheap from a particular chain store so if that pans out that will make my decision for me. But I would still like to hear some more comments/experience with these 2 reels.

Yeah good point! I do mainly chase bream but do also like to target others like tailor, flatties, trevs so the extra drag will come in handy.

Can't comment on the ci4, but I've got a 2000 sol that I've been abusing for almost a year now and these things are bullet proof. And the 2000 size will handle all those fish you've mentioned around the goldy no worries at all. Good luck with your decision!

Hey mate, I've had both reels and they're excellent. I found the Ci4 a little more comfortable to fish with then the SOL, personally preference but I'd go the Ci4, either way you go you'll be getting a quality reel.

had both of those reels, prefer the sol over the stradic and like bargeass ive had one of my sols close to 2 years and still going strong after a fair bit of abuse

Hi mate

Overall, i think the Sol is a better reel.. I was always a shimano man until I felt a sol, it was very nice! But, for the rod you're wanting to match it with i'd go the Stradic ci4! As mentioned above you'll be able to target a wider variety of fish with it.

+1 sol. mine copped a flogging in the yak. loved it. as mentioned above have a look and feel which sized sol feels best on that rod

IMO either!

Sol's is the smoother out of the two, Basically the checkpoint standard for Daiwa's mid-price reel.

Stradic Ci4 is the lighter one, not to forget Shimano's 10 years warranty. Which is always nice, but is hardly needed. IMO Shimano have the better durability between the 2 and will outlast most other brands... some people will beg to differ.

however, I've been quite impressed about the Sol's performance. Seems rather flawless, and it still feels relatively new after 3 month's of use.

I have yet to test the stradic Ci4 out but the Rarenium handles everything that is thrown at it. So the Ci4 body shouldn't be a concern.

You can't go wrong with either. Get what feels best for you and go with it.
