Squid rods

I am looking to buy a squid rod.
I like the EGI-force there $250
but I recon the lox squid rods look good and I like the brand.
The best ive seen and held are the samurai squid rods there awsome but there a bit pricy at $450

I would like to hear other peoples opinions of these rods and if you have a squid rod I would like to hear what you think of them. especially the EGI-force or the lox thanks.

I am looking for something this week or so, Egi Forces are very well regarded from two friends . I will be buying once, buying well so $250 a good start point.

Will be watching this thread with interest.

At a squid comp we had here in Perth on the weekend heaps had $750 plus rods so i guess $450 is a cheapy to them, lol

Got my first look at the Rapala T-Spec 822 EGI on the weekend.

Lee Rayner was using it in the YamaDohDohDohDoha egi comp in VIC.

It's freakin awesome.

It really depends on your budget. Locally (brisbane) there is not much to choose from, but if you a ok with buying from OS then there a heaps and heaps of options that cover pretty much anyones budget.

The Egi force rods are great option, as they are very JDM spec and quality rods at cheap prices. I cant comment on the lox as i have never seen it in person. As for the Samuari imho its too short for LB eging. however it is perfect for Boat Game.

for about the 200-250 mark id reccomend the egiforce (ony if its a type b as the entry level imo is a bit on the heavy side) or a daiwa emeraldas INF (approx 220 in bris)

Ive got 3 rods atm - Emeraldas st81mI, st86M and Graphiteleader Nuovo Calamaretti 83m. besides these i have owned Majorcraft triplecross 83m, Raycal 792el and Shimano Sephia CI486MH.

the only rod i did not enjoy using was the sephia as it was too heavy for my local conditions and was an impulse purchase.

cheers

andy

My favourite. Weights like a feather only 102g. And interline = no trouble, a big plus especially at night.

i dont mean for this to sound the way it does, more of a curiosity thing if nothing else. but has anyone actually noticed theyre catching more squid using "squid rods" guess its the same as any tackle debate. cheap vs exxy, D VS S, etc.

yeah i have one too used it for the first time today but not for squid. casting at surface schools and its a pretty sweet rod. i thought it wouldnt be suitable because of the slower taper but it worked quite well.
I did manage a massive wind knot at the only guide though. must be a first

Daiwa E-gee interline $160 at Bluewater Tackleworld Melville. I can offer a good price on the great selection of Egi rods and reels. We have Lox Egi, Okuma Egi, Samaurai Egi, Gladiator Egi, Nissin Egi, Yamas&$ta feeling shaft, Rovex Egi etc etc. Also a massive selection of squid jigs (egi).

Yakkindan, yes there is definately a difference in the rods like any style of fishing. Egi rods are designed to give maximum dart with minimum effort and load up and take the squid pulse without pulling the prongs etc. Have a look at them in the shops next to others. More guides, usually low riders or if you are lucky titanium K guides in the case of the YamaDohDohDohDoha Whizzer's Jive.

In response to the Lox question the original was a typical domestic Japanese style and has been modified to Aus preferences. It is a great rod for the dollars. Good action and at 8' 3" suited to landbassed anglers. The 702l Feeling Shaft by YamaDohDohDohDoha is the best Light Egi rod hands down. The Samurai Egi is outstanding both boat and land based. It's sweet spot is size 3.0 but will cast and work 2.5 to 4.0 well. If money is not a problem then the Whizzer's Jive 8' + rods are simply awesome and have titanium K's standard.

EGi Force B, had a play with a few others, interlines, graphiite leaders and this was by far the best.
