offer on a new combo?

I went to freddy's tackle world and was asking about the pflueger trion rod when the guy said that they were fragile and weak, so then he recommended a daiwa rod the exceler or another one from sakana, maple fishing tackle or daiwa not sure cause it didn't have a name. And he said he would put a daiwa legalis reel on it for a combo with some sunline pe braid pre-spooled all for $299.
Any thoughts on the price, combo and offer?
Also the total price bought sepreately is over $350.

In the $100 price bracket for a rod, the Trion is pretty hard to beat and punch way above their price point !!! As for being fragile, I dont belive the guy you spoke to knows that much about them, they are far from being a fragile rod. Tough as nails more like it !!

A mate of mine has about 6 Trion's and has been using them for a couple of years with no drama's and he rates them very highly. Best fish he has landed on it has been over 1.6kg's.

Not sure old mate know's what he is on about.

Cheers,

Dunno where he got fragile from I've got three of them and have abused them for the last two years, some are showing some war wounds but they are most deffinatly not fragile!! I can't rate them highly enough for the $100 you pay for them.

thanks guys, he said that the other rod was made from a higher grade graphite. I tested it out by him pulling down and me pulling up as hard as i can and it wout not snap or anything also he said that he get's too many trions back broken. anyway a rods a rod if it gets the job done I'm happy.

Higher grade graphite = being more fragile due to the higher carbon content. He seems to be hell bent on selling you a Maple Rod, as this brand I have only ever seen in Freddy's and no other tackle store.

The pic in my avatar is on a 2-4kg Trion and handled it with ease. I hooked a 1m + dog shark on a 3-6kg Trion and had no issues. They are a very gutsy rod mate that can take a beating quite well. Like I said, they are a much better/capable rod than their $100 price tag suggests !!!!

For $299...
trion 2-4 kg
stradic FI 1000/2500
Suneline super PE, Power Pro, Fins, Fireline etc.

Actually it'll be a touch over $299 but definitely a good choice

Hye mate,
I've been to freddy's at erina and all they ever want to do is sell you daiwa and maple gear. Also the samaki rods, he told me lox and nitros were terrible and samaki's were much better, then hold told me about his bream comp stories, then I fell asleep. Unfortunately for me that's the only local shop that sells decent gear other than west gosford bait and tackle.

the trions are popular for a reason mate. never heard of a maple so cant comment. if i was looking for a 100 dollar rod i'd definately look at a trion or dropshot for sure

For $100 Ray and Annes has the im7 dropshot 2-4Kg, next best thing to the trions/im6 dropshots.

lmao, they must have shares in Super PE briad because if you ask at the shop here in Greenhills near Maitland that's the first one they pick. Yep, same with the rod n reels too, straight to Daiwa, funny stuff. Not knocking the Daiwa brand as most of my gear is theirs for good reason, just seems very comparable for both shops to offer pretty much the same thing. Cheers Gav.

stay away from the maple stuff, too many people have problems with their gear and from wat i hear the warranty is pretty shocking (more so with getting parts for reel etc). i work in a fishing shop and know the trions are a good rod. in no way are more susceptible of snapping than any other rod. im sure if u shop around u might be able to get it cheaper than $299. the reels are $139 on mo, rods around 130 and line around 30. Comes pretty close to the price u have been offered. the trions are regularly on special for round $100 so have a look around and you might find sumthing a tad cheaper.

I actually have a 2-4Kg maple rod (evotech, i think) that I don't use, was given to me by a friend to put on my little calcutta 100. Rod was such a noodle, was like a glass rod haha. I now have an interline rod on that reel and haven't looked back, I have no idea how much the maple was worth but it was a piece of **** imo.
