Thoughts on a medium spin combo
G'Day guys,
Its only been a year or so since I had gotten into catching whiting, bream and flatty on light lures and poppers with my 2-4kg starlo stix tournament pro and 2500 stradic FI and have been swallowed by the bug and it now this is my most favourite type of fishing by a long shot. A couple of weeks ago, I took it to the next level and went to a little reefy cove and caught little sweetlip, cod, stripeys and some kinda wrassey thing on the gear and had an absolute ball in the process. I was landbased on a reef edge and had real fun using this gear trying to stop those guys from busting me up on the reef. Landed 30-35 fish or so for the day using. I got smashed using 3inch berkley powerbaits and 3inch atomic jerk minnows. When i upgraded to my 5inch Gulp crazy legs, I got smoked by a few unstopabbles which were realistically only "just" legal trout but was a real handful on the light gear. So... Im after your thoughts on a medium spinning outfit to handle these fella's. Im chasing a rod thats either 3-6kg or 4-7kg but must be 1 piece and have a lure weight from 7 grams and up ( I used a 1/6ounce jighead - whats that in grams?). Im thinking either a 3-6kg midspin starlo stix tournament pro or a 4-7kg t-curve revolution inshore series (as the 3-6kg in this is a 2 piece). Im thinking of matching this up with either a stradic 3000Ci4 or stradic 4000Ci4. I wouldnt mind going the 4000Ci4 as it is 10g lighter than the 3000FI I have on my 2-4kg stick. Usually I would go a 3000 for this rod, but i think i could get away with a 4000 but only if its a Ci4 as its much lighter? What do you guys recon I should do. Im open to suggestions I should mention I will be looking at spending $500-$600 Thanks |

G.Loomis GL3 are nice rods, as for the reel.
Stradic FI would be awesome, if you could go a bit extra. Try and have a look at a stradic/Rarenium Ci4 as the lighter weight comes in handy for that kind of fishing. Just "Legal" trouts DO go off. I was amazed, about how hard they go for their size.

Like you I have invested in a Starlo Stix (the PRO 701 3-6kg midspin) that I have teamed up with a Stradic 2500FI to chase juvenile mulloway with lures - land based. Have yet to hook up but the combo feels very nice to use. Regards.

3-6kg trion fits the bill perfectly. Great rods to, I can't rate them better for the price.
