Lock the drag up and give it a light, thorough rinse with freshwater. Once done, loosen off drag and leave to dry out of the sun. DO-NOT submerge reel in a bucket of water.

I get a hand towel wet it with warm water and wipe the entire reel down then rinse the spool under warm water to clean the braid. I do the same for my rods. After i have wiped and dryed my reel i usually oil it up on all external moving parts like line roler, bail arm etc.
Seems to do the trick but it takes a little while about 10mins.

(don't let water get into the drag)

You should not give the reel a shower or spray it with water. This will force water into places it shouldn't be and probably cause corrosion over time. As mentioned you only need warm water on a damp cloth and just give the reel a wipe-down. I usually take the spool and handle off to do this and wipe them individually. Obviously don't get the drag, shaft or internals wet. Once this is done you can either dry them in the shade or wipe them down with a soft dry cloth. Then I usually spray them with some inox or tackleguard. Basically anything similar that repels water, lubricates and prevents corrosion. This takes a bit more time but your reels will last a lot longer.

i just run all my reels (from exist to stradic ci4, spin and bc) under a light stream of water from under the tap. paying extra attention to the bail arm, spool and handle, pretty much anywhere that i likely to have seen more salt water than other places. then i just disassemble the major parts and leave it overnight to dry.
once dry, put it all back together, lube it up in all the right spots and spray with a light coat of silicone spray.
crank that drag right up tight when under the water and dont forget to undo it again
a drop or two in the maintenance port wont hurt it either.
rods gets the same, a rinse and a coat of silicone.

hope this helps
