Choices for a decent camera

G'day

I'm not looking for an SLR as I need something that is still easily portable but I'm happy to spent up to around $800 on a camera (so about $1000 with a decent case and polarizing filter). Large sensors are a must but I'm not too sure what I need in the way of zoom, etc so I'm open to suggestions. It will mostly be for traveling but of course will take plenty of fishing shots when I can keep it dry.

A couple of cameras I'm looking at are

Olympus E-PL1 Twin lens kit (Apparently a bit slow on the shutter lag and auto focus)
Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Twin lens kit (Bulky but good features, etc)
Canon Powershot G12 or S-95 (Good all rounder but a smaller sensor)

Does any one have any of these and HIGHLY recommend them?

Thanks in advance,

I've got the canon s95. A beautiful camera. Its got great reviews on it everywhere, is simple to use, nice and compact (slim) and takes great videos too. Lots of nice features and good lcd screen too.

If you dont need a pocket camera go the G12. Next best thing to a DSLR for sure! Otherwise the Panasonic or the SOny "H series" produce great pix.

Cheers for the tips.

I shouldn't have stressed to compact point too much.

I'm hoping to get something smaller than a full sized DSLR but I still want great image quality so I'm thinking a camera with 4/3rd's type sensor.
