Spinning Fluro Vs. Leader
Just wondering whats the difference between the two. Both are flurocarbon. One you can buy in huge spools and the other in 30 - 50 meter s?

Fluorocarbons vary greatly mate, but some fluoro leaders have quite a hard "shell", making them a lot stiffer and consequently not well suited to straight-thru use. Stiffer fluoro's tend to "spring" off a spinning spool causing all sorts of problems. Spinning fluoro's tend to be a lot softer and much easier to line-manage.
Many of the stiffest fluoro leaders are actually intended for fly-fishing where they help in presenting a fly correctly. Pukk' |

Ive been using my 4lb sunline spinning fluro as a leader and ive never once had a problem with it. Just wondered why people opt to buy fluro in the smaller spools. Ive been doing so for a long time now. But since ive been using the sunline sniper. i cant see my self going back to smaller spools.
Was just curious to people opions on the matter. thanks |

Aaah I getcha'.
I think a lot of smaller spools are of the stiffer stuff I mentioned - more aimed at fly fishers who use less. High quality fluoros also come in smaller reels, which is probably a marketing device to help sell more at a price that's still affordable. For example, a 300m spool of top quality fluoro' may be ridiculously expensive and harder to sell than a small spool, plus in some cases it makes the line look more 'exclusive'. Pukk' |

do you find with most fluros that they keep a memory and have that curl in em after being on your spool for a bit , or is it just me.

Leader fluros have a hard outer coating which helps prevent abrasion. This also stiffens the line making it not so suitable for use as a mainline as it tends to have too much spring.
Mainline fluros such as Toray upgrade or super finesse lack this hard outer coating. This makes the line softer and much much limper allowing for much better performance on spinning reels. This also makes the line less abrasion resistant than the proper leader fluros. Somewhere like flats you probably won't notice but fish around rocks and racks and you will quickly notice the difference. |
