Reel suggestions for 7' 3-6kg baitcaster
this rod feels more like a 2-5kg rod to me ... will be running 6-8lb braid ... so what baitcaster reel should i get ?
to be used for heavier than bream lures i.e. 3.5gram+ chasing bream, bass, jews etc. i have spin gear for my ultralight stuff. < 3gram lures I'm thinking the curado 51E .. just on 200 grams. does anyone here have thisreel ? thoughts ? or other suggestions. thanks. |

I have that reel and love it. Casts those middle sized lures nicely on a 6'4" trion so I'd say even better on your 7' rod. Just out of interest what rod is it?

For a rod like that you will want a small reel.
That curado 50 should do well, as would a daiwa alphas. Anything in the 50 (shimano) or 103 size (daiwa) should do well. |

thanks dudes .. might have to get that 51E !!
it is a cough cough anacondaspecial3-6kgstickthatigotonspecialfor$50 just getting more into baitcasters and i snapped up that rod because there are VERY few affordable 7' baitcast sticks in that weight class unlike the states where they have a huge variety of 1 piece 7ft sticks ! they may still be on sale .. not the best guides or EVA handle, but it's got an OK bend in it !

Both shimano's centrifugal and the daiwa magnetic work well. I own both system (shimano conquest 50 and various daiwa bc's) and, once you set them up to your casting style, they work equally as well as each other.
I'd recommend just going into your local shop and playing with all the reels in your price range and see what reel feels the best to you. |

cool, thanks !
unfortunately, it's pretty hard to test it out since aust does not sell the 51e ... or I have not seen them around anyway. it's also pretty hard to test out baitcasters since you really need to have practice casts to see which one suits you best which means the reel needs to have line on it and the shop will let you have test casts with a plug and also let you screw it up to your own rod to try and compare it's not really like a spin reel/rod where you feel the balance of the rod and if you are happy you buy it. |

how does the daiwa sol b/c compare to the curado 51e ?
quite a big price difference between the two .. so i would dare say no comparison since the sol is a $369 reel ? curado and sol felt quite similar but on spinning both spools with the clutch disengaged .. the sol felt so damn smooth with the curado just slightly not as smooth. |

Check the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Revo Inshore out..
About $250 and spins nice and quickly to match your trion.

Yes they are great, I run 10lb braid on mine and it casts unweighted plastics a mile.

why not also look at the zillion series?.
HOWEVER.....3.5g lures is a bit hard to cast n since youre running super lines on em,might have a few birdnests to be anticipated. i have 3 zillions........the p.a,50th anniversary n the standard gold ones.all have been upgraded.......polished internals, abec 9 bearings n all running on x treme reel lube..............strapped on the daiwa ceilo rod 4-10 lbs rod rated to 1/16 - 3/8 lure weight n running p.e 1 line ..................still birdnest on me every now n then. i have given up on em especially on light lures.spin reels does the jobs better BUT theyre fun to learn n mastered.guess theres nothing wrong learning another sets of skills huh?. |
