Fishing with floating HB cranks

Hi all,

Pretty much all my crank baits i've used so far have been the suspending type. Obviously these have an advantage over floating lures - the fact you can pause the retrieve and have the lure suspend.
So my questions is, how do you fishing floating cranks? Just slow rolls? I find that the pause makes the lure float up too quickly and doesn't look natural. Or do you guys add weight to the lure to help it suspend? e.g. bigger split rings, trebles, sticky weight, suspendots etc.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi mate,

Stickyweight etc are a good option to make the lure suspend, but I've also found that sometimes yellowfin bream dont always like a long pause and will hit the lure on a slow rolling retrieve. Try a few different lures with different rates and see what works best in your area

Stickyweights would be your best option.

The 3B Berkley Fat dogs are just one example.

I added bigger hooks, 4 extra split rings and it hardly made a difference in the Bouyancy.

I personally haven't used Stickyweights, but it's either them or add ALOT heavier hooks/Splits.

Besides that, I have caught fish on a constant retreives - seem's more productive then a finesse twitching retreives at times.

I guess it varies between locations and the fish's mood.

Hey,

If you want to make them suspend, tusten weight is the best way to go. I like to add it just under the front bid, some lures need a little bit and some a lot.

Floating lures are great around rock walls and timber, you can bang them into structure then let them float up again. Also easier to get back when the do get snagged.

Regards,

Thanks guys. I'll give the sticky weight and suspendots a go on some. I'll keep the others a floaters and see what's working the best.
