New 2004 Daiwa Freams

Recieved my 2004 daiwa freams today, this model will aparently not be available initially in australia due to production restrictions. (WHATEVERRRR!!!)

Feels the same as the new mx, maybe a little noiser, however you will see by my photos that they are supplied rather dry so a squirt of grease and re oil the bearings and its good to go. Cool new i shape knob to however i opted for the cork rcs model. Drag feels good no issues here. The new oil seal is a bit of a gimmic as it is just an oil soaked felt washer so i really dont know how effective it will be. Capsule body is chrome so you can see shiny chrome bits through the air rotor. reel plus rcs knob and spooled with unitika super pe 2 cost me 249 delivered.

Drag washer is your oil soaked felt washer. That's not the Mag seal. The Mag seal is in the antireverse system, that "chrome capsule".

On a side note, the handle is the machined slide in handle that as previously sold as the upgrade for the old school Luvias and Airity.

The 2011 freams has oil shield not a mag seal. If you have a look at their schematics the oil shield actually sits in front of the capsule not way back behind the antireverse bearing.

2000 vs 2004

With the above sizes, the max drag is 4kg and 2kg respectively. Is it the different spools between the two that determine the drag? E.g. if a have a 2000 and put a 2004 spool on it, will the drag go from 4 - 2kg? Excuse my noobieness

yes it is the spool that determines the max drag since the drag washers sit within the spool itself. my guess is that the 2 different types of spools use drag discs of different size / thickness / material

maybe someone can pull apart their shallow spool and look at the drags and can enlighten us as to why we are able to get a more 'finesse' drag setting out of the shallow spools

Oh I pulled that apart to. The finesse spools have less washers in them. 2004s you get one or two below the pressure plate and a 2000 spool you will get a big sandwich stack.

Sols are definitely more precise. However they are like bums, every man and his dog has one.
