2kg is alot for Bream.I would be using a max of 1kg drag depending on location of fishing and breaking strain on your line / leader.
For flats fishing i would use a light drag and fishing in heavy cover such as oyster racks etc id be locking up the drag the little bit more than usual. At the end of the day i guess it depends on were your fishing. A general rule of thumb is dont set your drag anymore than a 3rd of the breaking strain. Hope this helps. |

2kg is heaps... Get an empty 2L bottle and fill it with water. Tie your line to it and lift with the drag just tight enough so that it doesn't drop... It's way way way more than you think.

I have seen people use scales that have a slide on them that records what the drag is, anyone seen these? We use our normal fish weighing scales but the needle is bouncing around all the time.

Another thing to remember to is that the rod will take a lot of a fishes lunges so in effect your drag could be double what think it is!!!

how do you reckon 2 or 3kg drag would handle bass or jacks?

Depends on the size of the fish and the structure you're fishing in... 2-3kg could be a bit light for jacks.

Seriously.....do you really need to know how much drag your reel does??? What can a 500gm bream pull???
I can understand if you are running IGFA line for a comp and you're running line class...... Just set the drag to what you are comfortable with. I set my drag to just enough that I can pull line out with one wrap of braid around my hand. |
