Would you buy?

Its basically a fresh water reel treated so it can be used in salt.

From my reading you have to be careful not to damage the paint work or rust will be a problem.

ive owned a pflueger supreme reel myself. i wasnt a fan. salt was a massive problem for the reel and it was a bit stiff in the winding of the reel.
not bed looking reels though.

Thanks for the reply

When you say salt was a massive problem - were there any other problems apart from stiffness when winding?

And was the reel dropped in saltwater - exposed to salt spray - or just used near salt water without physically coming into contact with salt water.

i had the 2500XT size and i used it for herring on the beach. with 10lb line. it got sprayed. but never dropped. was always washed and sprayed after every use.
dont get me wrong, the reels are fairly smooth, but to first start winding, its just not as smooth as other reels

Own one (owned two), don't really like it. Corrosion has not been an issue and I don't wash my reels as much as I should... What has been an issue is the sloppiness in the gears on one and the stiffness/grindiness in the gears of the other.

Pflueger make better reels at lower price points, well when they're at full price anyway... Look, for $89 you can always give it a shot, perhaps I just got unlucky?

In parting, they're selling FAST. We're all out of 9040's already and 75% of our 9025's and 9035's are gone.

Not sounding like such a bargain any more - thanks for that.

They're being sold at that discount as Anaconda got them for a song from purefishing due to them becomming EOL. They're being replaced by what is essentially the XTS series and the XTS series is being replaced by the Patriarch.

At full RRP, yes a killer profit, at the discounted price there isn't a whole lot in it.

I wouldnt let that influence your decision hugely mate. A lot of Daiwa and Shimano reels that people buy without a second thought are magnesium frames, that are then treated for use in Salt.

I know bugger all about reels - Can you mention a few of the reels you are referring to.

The Daiwa reels I use are - Capricorn - Advantage - Tierra

And Shimano Stradics.

I've used all of them in salt and there ok - So if any of them are freshwater reels, it wouldnt stop me buying another freshwater reel.

ANY reel can be used in the salt, just be mindful of wiping them down with a warm damp cloth after use. Add a dose of inox if you want some extra protection.
