Reel - Bearings Up-grade?
Hey guys,
I've been meaning to ask this a while back. But how would you go about adding more BB's to a reel which was originally designed with less BB's that you intend to give it. (if that made sence) I read a few stuff that claims they changed a Zillion from 6 BB to 10 BB. Where would you put all them? Also could you add extra BB's to a Daiwa Luvias 2000? Any info on this would help me alot. Thanks in advance, -Pivot- Last edited by -Pivot-; 12-07-2010 at 03:21 AM. |

The only place I bother to install an extra bearing is under the spool. Remove the collar and add a bearing of the same size.

Some knobs can take 2 bearings in them. Plus the one under the spool as has been mentioned.

Sometimes a bush is something less to go wrong.
You can order bearings through good tackle shops. This time of the year they may even have time to help you fit them. The same goes with RCS handles. Theyll help you pimp your reel if there's enough time. Last edited by Acanthopagrus; 12-07-2010 at 06:44 AM. |

Cheers guys,
But Im more interested in adding BB's to baitcaster reels. And wondering if anyone have done it before. Also, would like to know if it felt grindy or dodgy afterwards. Thanks for the replies again. cheers, -Pivot- |

most will have to remove the bushing first and then determine the size of b/b to replace it.what baitcaster do you have in mind for the upgrade?.otherwise replace the bearing on the end of the spool and sideplate to higher abec rating ones.

And thanks for that. Might go down to tackleworld tomorrow and ask them about it. I'm sure they'll give me a better insight. Thanks for all the posts. Considering Im not sure what a bushing is I will have to be shown it. ![]() Thanks, -Pivot- |

Im sure it's always the knobs they add them to makes them a lot smoother, maybe on the spool too? Don't quote me on it but i think TryHard has done it to one of his reels if i remember correctly in the 'Show us your Bling' thread.
Edit: And a bushing is like a smaller piece of rubber type material. i think it acts like a spacer type deal haha i'm not sure.

Thanks for that mate
![]() Also I remember seeing something about the up-grade of BB's to a reel on the "show us your bling" thread. But, didn't know who posted it and couldn't find it when I wanted to. cheers, -Pivot- |

Pivot, A bush is usually made of brass or sometimes aluminium.
Theres an aluminium bush that goes under the spool on some reels, the Sol has one anyway. You can remove it pretty easily and replace it with a bearing and it's supposed to make the drag smoother. I've done it to my Sol. I don't know much about baitcasters but I've replaced the brass bushes on my abu7000 with bearings. They are the bearings that sit on the spool shaft. It makes the spool spin more freely but the downside for abu's is sand gets into them pretty easily so the bushes are actually better for beach work. Hope this helps

I took the bushes out of my abu 7000 and fitted bushes as the spool shaft only actually touches maybe 3 percent of the inner bush hole whereas the bearings are all touching so they have more friction....my abu casts further with the bushes than the bearings ...but this is not the case for the spool bearing on a threadline....i have opted for a bearing on my daiwas.

in regards of zillion cc im not too sure weather you can add more b/b into the handle as the gold and red zillion have the handle sealed.all you have to do is remove the rubber gourmet at the end of the handle and look for a screw thread.if theres one open it up and have a looked weather it is b/b or plastic bushing.one you might be able to add is the one on the line roller.most zillions except the 50th anniversary stated that theres b/b in there but it turns out only bushing.i think its 5x8x2.5.
its a great reel and theres not much you need to upgrade.just enjoy it. |
