twin power or sustain ?
Looking at putting an outfit together with a 4000 size reel. A guy in the tackle shop reckons a sustain will do just as good a job as a twin power for around $100 less. I have really only had Shimanos so I've settled on a choice between either of these two reels.
I'm not scrimping on the rod though and am seriously looking at a 7'10" Loomis Pro Green model rated at 8-15 lb. |

its kinda the same as Daiwa. They got the Saltiga and got a cheaper reel (Saltist) which has the same grunt as the saltiga just cheaper. If the sustain is just as good for 100 bucks cheaper, then go for it mate. but i reckon the twin powers are a pretty sexual reel

The sustain is a stradic FI +2 bearings. If I had the choice again and the money, I'd go a twinpower.
Actually no, I'd go a stella LOL |

I could be wrong here but when I went to purchase a twinpower I saw that the FB's were made in japan and the fc's were Malaysia. For this reason I purchased the silver model (from the U.S) which is definitely MIJ as there were no FB around.
Like I said I could be wrong but here is a Japanese made FB. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Shimano-Twin-...item3cae99ccc6 I am stumped? |

as far as i can see the reels are essentially the same specs, same number of ball bearings, same line capacity etc, the sustain does have a higher ratio than the twinpower though. if your after a cheaper option, look at the daiwa tierra, its got 1 less ball bearing and about 50 grams heavier but almost half the price and still a great reel.

Lots of reasons: Are both reels current models? Maybe the Sustain is an older model or has been sitting on the shelf and they want to move it. Cheaper doesnt necessarily relate to making less money either, if he makes a bigger margin on the cheaper reel then it is more attractive to sell the cheaper one.

If you are choosing between the Sustain FE and the Twinpower FC, go for the Twinpower FC. On paper they are quite similar, but the Sustain FE is made in malaysia while the Twinpower FC is make in Japan. If you are looking at the discontinued Sustain FD, you will find that it is made in Japan.
