Covering a scratch

I was out today fishing from the rocks with my Steez 2508. I'm always really careful with this reel cos I love it so much, but slipping on a bit of weed, I leant forward holding the rod and there was a proper slow motion stylee 'scraaaaaaaaaaaatttch' as the reel body was the only thing supporting me at one point. The damage isn't as severe as I though it'd be, but it now has one little knock to the spool and also one scratch on the main body - right through the paint and down to the core. Gutted!!!!! I've looked after this reel SERIOUSLY well!

Is there anything that anybody can recommend to cover the body scratch? Something that won't chip off, but also doesn't involve a major strip and paint job? Will just a bit of nail varnish or something be adequate? The scratch isn't in the most noticeable place, but I just want to avoid an open scar getting ravaged by the salt.

Ben

Go to an Auto shop and get a touch up paint pen. Hopefully they have a colour that matches the reel. You just need to seal the scratch, this should do the job and prevent it rusting. Just give it a very light sand before touchup.

Nice one. Thanks mate, I'll do that. Had considered it, but lame as it sounds, wasn't sure if there was some funny thing with reel body paints and materials that ruled it out. Cheers.

It won't rust because it is a magnesium body which reacts even worse with salt than metal. They are treated for saltwater but I am not sure if it is the magnesium itself or just the paint. I would treat it very carefully as it would be a shame to let a top end reel be ruined, maybe call Daiwa and ask.

Gus.
