Cranka Shad rattles?
Can anyone tell me if Cranka Shads have BB's inside to make noise? And if so, what are those rattles made from?
I overheard a noted angler talk about the importance of the rattle and the type of rattle i.e. brass BB's in the body being the best. In fact he said that the reason Atomic Hardz and Chubby's do so well is their specific similar sounds underwater. I like the look of the Cranka's and hope they have a rattle.

Hey mate,
To answer your question- They dont have rattles. Your right about rattles being good to attract fish, but that is usually dependant on where you fish. On sandflats and places where your not specifically targetting a piece of structure, the rattles can help attract fish. I used to just stick with lures with rattles but lately have given the Shads a go in spots where chubbys have been working and been doing better. I think sometimes throwing silent lures which the fish dont see all the time, can get them to bite better. Im sure theres a lot of bream that have seen a loud chubby swim past them before! |

The Cranka lures come in two styles one is a silent suspending shad and the other a rattling vibe as to what kind of metal is used for the rattle lm unsure. lm sure Dan from Cranka can fill you in when he sees this.
As for the noted angler's views on the importance of rattles ld have to disagree on the grounds that a rattling lure is not always beneficial and can at times be the exact opposite.l pretty much always use silent lures when ever fishing shallow water ways and clear water.l find it puts the fish more at ease and allows for a reaction bite to the passing lure rather than them actually being scared by the sound in shallow water. Granted a rattling lure in murky and sometimes deep water is also a beneficial at times. The actual pulse of a lure working against a fishes lateral line is probably enough in most instances to require them to investigate the source. l would say to cover all bases having both is of utmost importance when targeting bream in different fishing situations. Hope this helps. Cheers Steve Link to Cranka site.... http://www.cranka.com.au/page15.php Last edited by Hooked; 13-05-2010 at 07:35 AM. |

Hey Buddy
As Steve and Nabs has said the shads do not have rattles they are a silent lure. We choose silent for a few reasons, larger fish tend to shy from the noisey lures if they are already a bit spooked from all the noise in a tournament. This is the reason Smiths Jades have done so well in recents years on securing some massive bags, and the guys using them will tell you that the silent action was the key to the success of the lure on the day, We are bringing out a crank soon that will be a rattler. But the Cranka Vibe has rattles in it, inside the vibe is a mix of hardend steel balls and tungsten balls, this gives out a mixed sound, from sharp to tinny sounds, The vibe is a brillant lure and should no be thought of as a deep water lure. I use the lures over and over on flats and often out fish the most popular flats lures on the market. Many think i am mad when i pull out the vibe for the flats, and then just watch in disbelief. I also find on flats that a few quick rips and then a long pause (dead sticking it) for upto 10 seconds will often reward you well. Other times just cranking into the sand all the way works. If you are fishing for Black Bream you will find pausing any lure will be of benefit most days. Yellows tend not to like the pausing thing so much, but with the vibe when it sits on the bottom doing nothing, they pick at it like a small fish stealing the bait of your hook. But they will take it normally on the 3rd nibble as a rule. Hope this helps and you give them ago and get similar results to others that are using them. Regards Dan |

If you want to add rattles try drilling a small hole and add some then seal the lure back up - doesn't hurt to experiment
