Nitro or Loomis?

need one of the rods to match up with my exist im soon getting.
any recomendations?

Some say Nitro, some say Loomis.

What's your definition of the best?

I like Loomis and sold 2 of my Nitros if it helps. Try both with your new reel and see which one you like more.

Which model/blank are you comparing? What's your price range?

If you're putting an exist on it, I assume you'll be going for a top of the line Loomis (GLX), then IMO they're a lot better than the Nitro (Vapour/Powerbream etc...)

If you are going to spend that sort of money on a rod, then it has to be G.Loomis, out of those two you've nominated.

In saying that, however, I do not believe in spending $400+ on a fishing rod, unless it is a G.Loomis 4wt fly rod.....

I Have both the Loomis SR842-2 GLX and the Vapor 7' 1-3kg. There is no comparison IMO, Balance of the loomis is miles better, and so is the recovery rate. Vapor is still a great rod but the SR is in another league.

$$ does not equal better.
Are you looking at the Vapor ? and what lenght?
If its the 7 foot, even the exist 2500 wont balance the nitro.

ive got a nitro 7" but im not planning on using the hyper custom on it.

Comparing brands it pointless.

Look at what you are going to use it for, then what kinda rod would be suitible for that use, then the appropriate models that each of those brand makes. THEN choose which you think is better based on personal preference/espense/warranties etc.

I run 6'6 and 7ft Nitro's with Sol's, Twin Powers and Certates. They are light and exactly what I like. I found the few Loomis' I played with just didnt sit right in my hands. Nothing against Loomis but I just prefer the Nitro's

what i was getting at was for the exist, get a custom rod built up
if you've already got in mind to spend as much as a high end loomis
IMO you can generally get a rod that will suit you far better for equal or even less money if you get a builder to knock you up a custom one
high end reel and the perfect rod, trumps high end reel and a rod thats not quite what you want in one or two areas
you may be able to track down a loomis blank to get it built on, or just order a northfork

I have a 7" Nitro Powerbream with a 2506 Exist and it is my current favourite combo, I am using it every week at the moment. I do have several SMITH, Evergreen, Megabass (a mates I have used) and some custom rods but this rod and reel combo balances perfectly in my hand, it is slightly less sensitive than some of the others but the balance is perfect when making 1000 casts a day!

I think it's best to wait untill your reel arrives then take it to your LFS and try it out on any of the rods you are looking at purchasing, that way you will know exactly what the combo feels like before you buy it.

that sounds like a good idea spoonta66. might stick with the standard exist and see how i go with that.
