pretty much anthything
my mate has told me he aslo has the SOL and he has been told that the 3-6kg is the better way to go as it is more reliable and the same price. You can catch smaller fish and also bigger fish wihout damaging the rod.

3-6 is a bit heavy, for an allrounder i'd go for a 2-4kg IMO

If you get the heavier rod it will handle the bigger fish, but it will make the smaller fish less fun. If its too heavy you won't be able to fish light leaders without snapping them as there won't be enough bend in the rod. I don't know the 3-6 Sol rod so I'm not sure how big a problem this will be.

What pound line do you intend to fish on the rod? What sort of fish do you hope to catch? What is available in your area? What size lures/baits do you anticipate casting?

If you're doing the same fishing as your mate and you've tried his rod and like it then thats the way you should go. He will have a better knowledge of where your fishing, how your fishing, what your fishing with and what your likely to catch then the people sitting on line commenting effectively blind.

The sol's not a cheap rod, if you're not sure it will do what you want it too, you could get a couple of cheaper rods that will better cover the options. Couple of Pfleugers or berkley dropshot series rods for say the same amount of cash as the Sol. Get one reel with two spools and cover 2 line classes as well.
The Sol is a pretty classy looking rod though.

Sort of makes sense except when I look at the sol 2 range there isn't a 3-6lb might be in the old range though.

It sounds like a the right range for the fish you are talking about. And fishing 6lb braid across it sounds OK.

A couple of the guys recommended 4-8lb earlier. That probably is a better fit for an allrounder, especially when you include jacks on your list.

If you were to spend a lot of time chasing jacks around stucture then the 3-6kg might be better choice given their reputation for hard fighting and breaking people off. On the other hand there was a ripper landed on 2lb posted on this site not long ago. Exception rather than rule on that one I guess.

Have a look at your budget and work out what will do the job best for you. Heaps of options nowdays. We really are spoilled for choice when it comes to good fishing gear.
