help me choose a braid

hi guys,

I need your help in helping me decide on what brand of braided line i should go for.
I will be loading this line into a saltiga surf spinning reel matched to a saltiga ballistic surf rod with a max breaking strain of 40lb.
I'm currently considering berkley tracer line and power pro of 30lb test.
Any other suggestion guys?

cheers
rocky

power pro is just like tufline xp but being rounder its also a hell of a lot thicker, feels nice and that sort of thing but mega thick, for the money go tufline i reckon, cheapish, lasts ages and casts like a dream.

thats my suggestions anyways

Hey man,

My mate got 6lb Nitlon braid on his reel, and it consistently knots up on him. But, my brother has 30lb braid on his reef baitcasting outfit. And it doesn't have a problem of knotting up whatsoever. And it goes alright dragging the fish from the reefy bottom. So, I think that Nitlon would be a good choice aswell as sunline, if you're going 30lb. But I wouldn't consider it on small bream outfits.
hth's,

...Check out Frog PE (linesystems) 30lb is soffffffft as, round, 8 carriage braid. Well worth the money, especially in the surf. The salt/sand wont break it down half as quick as other braids, being more threads and woven tighter. Pretty colourfast too.

the daiwa td-sensor casts a mile and is super smooth. If i was going to put some braid on a surf outfit i would definatley put the sensor on. the only problem is that it is pretty expensive. But it is all worth is when you are pulling of massive casts.
Good luck with your braid shopping

I've been using a saltiga surf 6500 for two years now, with 25 lb sunline super pe, it's perfect, never had even the slightest problem, it casts exceptionally well and has landed plenty of good fish

I spooled up with saltiga surf in 15lb a week ago on a 2500 for breamming and its been great. Round, very smooth, ties good knots and casts quite well too. Dunno what its like wear and tear wise or if it will last long, but im pretty happy with it so far. Seeing as there intended to be used with the reels, i dont reckon you could go far wrong with saltiga braid in the 30lb.

I am assuming that you are not angling for the finesse approach then? I suppose I was not questioning whether the line would fit but more so whether it was the best choice for the target fish.

Do you find your casting is affected at all? Have you spooled up with anything thinner on the reel previously?

Just interested why you would use 7 Kilo line to catch 1-2 kilo fish...

Yeah its more intended to be used for 'come here' type use but ive actually had a few flicks with it fishing surface and open water and its been pretty good. Reel came in last week and its the first braid ive used on it, but theres not a whole heap of difference diameter wise between sensor or super pe in 6lb, ive compared this myself with other spools at home.

Casting wise isnt a whole lot different to the afore mentioned braids either. Its on a dsr at the moment so guide placement is tight, and having a 2500 with such short spacing to the stripper guide definately causes noticible difference to casting compared to using a 2000. But due to the fact that the difference in diameter between super pe for example and salty is so marginal i doubt that the braid is the reason behind this minimal difference (im talking maybe 3m with a px on).

Il be mounting it on another rod thats on the way and seeing how it performs, but as of so far im very happy with it. Line markings also make detecting line bites and takes on the drop way easier. Its good stuff.
