rear drags.....
anyone used or is using a rear drag type reel.looking at another reel which has rear drag.would like to know the for's and against's.
shimano have a rear drag on the sedona that has a "lever" type drag as well as a rear knob.

I have the Sedona with a front drag and it is crap. I lost a bream at the WA Invitational because of it. The rear drag might be better, but if it works the same as the front drag I would steer clear of it.

Rear drags are rarely any good. To fit the drag in the small space available the size of the washers is compromised, it would be possible to make up for that by using more washers, but again lack of space means that is not usually done. Then there is the problem of sealing the drag from the lubrication used in the main body of the reel.
I have owned a Shimano rear drag reel for about 20 years and it is and always has been a pretty poor specimen (Custom EX series). I have to baby the drag and service it way too often and even then it isn't smooth and even as it should be. If you have a choice between rear and front drags, go for the front drag.
