hi all

just wondering for all you g loomis fans out there what is the difference between a GL2 and a GL3 rod??? is there much of a price difference because i know the GL3 are around $300.

also do you think a 5`4 1-3kg rod is too short for bream spinning??

Hey Evan,
I don't know the exact differance, but i believe it has something to do with the quality of components and the blank it is made from.
I fish an SB721 6'2in and a CR641 (custom) 5'6in.
It depends what you want to do with the rod as I find the smaller rod is only good for close range stuff. It is wild in close with soft plastics in boat pens and man made structure, but for snags the other rod comes in to it's own with hard bodies. It is all confusing and I can't identify half the rods in thier selection but I would not fish with any thing else. Bear just bought an sb721 and he loves it, get up to perth and check out campbells and bluewater as they have a reasonable selection.

thanks geoff so the GL3 is made from the better components / blank etc??

the reason why im asking is there is a stradic 1000 teamed up with a 5`4 GL2. thats all the specs that i know other than that is is unused. just wondering what a fair price was because it was going to cost about $30 US to get it shipped over.

just found out some more info. it is a GL2 mag - light extra fast taper. does this mean anything to you??

evan the gl2 is better than the gl3 ,the fastness is about the same but the graphite is far superior than the gl3 plus it cost a bout anyway up to $1oo dearerthere is a sj 700 at campbell i was looking at on tuesday about $300 price reduced good buy .

MAGIC if i had the money iwould but at the moment saving to buy a boat ,for the walpole round.

will be considering it now, the only thing that is holding me back is the length 5`4 - not very big, but i suppose when you are fishing with light stuff length is not that much of a problem - or is it??

I have been throwing a lot of lures around the Swan lately and I have tried both my short and long rod on hards and softs.
I have found that you get a good long cast out of something 6'+ where as you will always be struggling with a short rod.
You fish predominately in the Murray don't you?, I would be using my long rod with hard bodies on the snags and have my short rod out with plastics for any man made structure.
Check out www.gloomis.com they have some descriptions on all their models of what they are used for or best suited to including weights of lures and line class that each rod is best suited to. Definately Get One

the rod is part of an ebay auction and at current prices it seems pretty cheap- the only problem is i dont have a choice with the size. it is also very enticing as it comes with a stradic 1000 - and i need a smaller bream reel. but the rod is rated for 1-3kg and throws lures 1/64-1/8oz which seems like it would be ideal for softs.

I had a Loomis made to those spec's especially for softs and close range stuff, it is a great rod for jigging, if it is a good deal but it, what are they asking?

i think the bidding is upto about $200 but the reserve hasnt been met yet. the guy selling it has a buy it now on it for around $300 so it seems that you would be getting the reel for free.

Try and get it as low as you can, at $300 bucks it is a bargain

just remember that if the price is in yank $ double what ever they are asking plus a bit the dollar is not as good as it was thank to a event in the midleeast.

To All the G. Loomis Fans:
Just a word of warning. Up until recently I had the responsibility of building all the Loomis's for Australia. I also designed and built the Crankbait spin versions and the Bream Special rods.
G. Loomis rods from the US are very different in design and finish to 'our' versions, so don't expect to get a rod with similar components and colour scheme.
Of course, having said that, the blanks are the same, so descriptions of the rod should match the catalogue write-up. Don't forget that this rod could be a 'custom build' by a third party rodbuilder. If that's the case, all bets are off regarding what it could be!
My advice would be to find out as much as possible about the rod (and the reel, for that matter!) before purchase and have a look at how much that rod/reel would be worth new in the US. Some people on auction sites have a very inflated idea of how much their gear is worth. Good luck!

steve if you useto build them is tood & sons now or do they just import straight from usa.

also i got a catalogue sent from gloomis direct and the description seem the same . do they make the rods before distributed in oz.
