advantage or sol?
i'm about to get a new reel because my 2000 recently shat itself (have been using a 3000 penn as a short term replacment, not exactly a finesse reel)
i have been looking around and have narrowed down my choices to either an advantage or a sol. my question is, is there really $40 US difference between the sol and the advantage? thanks in advance

Basically the same reel. Same platform, all that varies is the colour, number of bearings/CRBB's pretty much. That said however, there must be some differences as a lot of people say the Advantage doesn't seem to have the same cranking power.
On paper the difference isn't all that obvious, until you factor in where the bearings are and how much they cost. As always, you get what you pay for, so if you can afford it, go the higher price point reel for that marginal gain. |

The Advantage also has a graphite/plastic rotor while the sol is aluminium.

Sorry for the OT, but I see that DohDohDoh now have Team Dawia status. Seems they got what they wanted from buying Campbells.

Go a Sol, I have an Advantage it's a bit heavy for my liking. But I'm getting a Sol when I have the $$.

I have two TDAs, you can add a bearing knob to them I think if you want to bring it up to the same as the SOL. Personally I wouldn't buy a TDA again they really don't cut it compared to other reels and are pretty over rated. Both of mine have lots of start up inertia even after a total strip down and servicing. Save your pennies and but a certate, even a second hand one will be way way better.

I have 2 TDA 2000's and find them great. I also have a Sol 2000 and feel that it is better. Tiny bit lighter by the specs but don't notice it much. They both have good drag systems but I think the sol is a little smoother especially at light loads. I think the spool support on the sol is better.
Aluminium Rotor on the sol compared to graphite on the Advantage. In Australia there is only $20 difference between the Sol and and Advantage so I would go a Sol everytime. For $40US I think the Advantage is better value but the Sol is the better reel. That said the line rollers on my older advantages make no noise where as the Sol is noisy, still rolls so not an issue just an annoyance until you work our what it is.

thanks heaps crusty
if there is only $20 difference between the 2 in Australia then i think i will go down to the local tackle shop instead and see waht sort if deal they can do on the reels. i don't mind paying about $30 or so more if i can give the local a bit of business and keep my money in australia. now all i have to do is brush my hair and do a bit of sweet talking ![]() cheers
