Who uses a BD Clear Cut Plus 6'6"

Hey all

I have a Black Diamond Clear Cut Plus 6'6" and i have a possible dumb question

This rod has an ultra short grip which i like for putting really small twitches on plastics or hards, and also when fighting fish on a flat i can extend my arm right up high....

Anyways - i am finding it really awkward to cast, either short distances with accuracy due to the soft tip, and for long distances it's hard to control the realease point i find, and also my leader knot is getting caught in the small runner third from top. (Maybe i'll switch to fluro straight thru)

It does have a small reel, so it would balance up ok and maybe this causes loss of distance on the cast, maybe i'm trying too hard for too much and should be content on using it closer to structure and not on the flats, i already have a flats stick.

It feels like a fly rod in hand and very different to all my other sticks......just wondered who else has one and what they use it for/how does it go for you?

Maybe i could customise for a slightly longer rear grip? Dunno......

Cheers

Mick.

Gday Mick,

I have a 6'6" CC Plus 1-3kg (with Custom Plus guides), and use it to throw plastics and small HBs for bream/whiting/flathead/trevally in the salt, and trout and golden perch in the fresh. I find it loads up better than my 6' CC 1-3kg when casting light weights, and I reckon I get probably 20-30% more distance casting the 6'6" compared to the 6'. I'm generally throwing Lucky Craft Cra-Pea minnows, or 3" SPs on 1/12oz jigheads. I've landed trout to 50cm and golden perch to almost 60cm on this rod, it has bigger balls than I thought when I first bought it.

I haven't had any problems with knots catching, currently running 4lb TD sensor and 6lb fluoro leader. I reckon I get better distance by letting the rod load up smoothly and naturally, rather than going for too much on a cast. Is your reel well filled with line? I'm using an Infeet 2004 with the shallow spool which gives me pretty good distance.

HTH,
Jazman

Cheers Jazman

I might be going for a bit much on the cast with it in wide open spaces, i'll have to get some more casting practice in.

It does have plenty of guts for such a light piece of equipment.

Mick.

work on your timing rather than your effort, if you release the line at the right time it will always go further than if you dont release at the right time with a heap of power...

have also found that with a soft tip it will tend to throw lighter stuff heaps better than heavier things like vibes or bigger hbs as they tend to hold the tip back as your casting forward, with the lighter things it tends to throw them forward better
cheers
