Flushinmg your motor

After watching this clip on you tube i noticed that when she is flushing the motor she is not starting it.Can all Yamaha motor's be flushed with out starting the motor?I'm guessing there must be a special adapter for the hose to connect to the motor.........if anyone knows more information about this would be great to share.

I have a 50 4st yammi and there is a connection on the side of the motor where a hose connection can be screwed in.... it makes flushing so much easier....

I was using the standard ear muffs until one arvo when I actually sat down and read the manual According to the manual there is no need to start the motor while flushing...

Yep - have just got a new Yamaha and the dealer said you can either flush the traditional way with the muffs or, if you have a look, on the right hand side of the engine (as you look at it from the back) is a reasonable sixe screw cap that comes off. You just then screw in one of those hozelock connectors from Bunnings, attach the hose and away you go.

Not sure what models this applies and what the practical difference between the two methods is though.......

Cheers

I thought I saw Gary Howard demo this on a fishing DVD, and he said that it didn't completely flush the motor. I guess i will have to go back and watch them all over again

We had a 150 Merc EFI that had the same thing.

As many applications restrict traditional flushing (penned boats, boatlifts with no rear acess etc) many brands have cold flushing ability. Yes it is recommended to regularly hot flush as this gives the thermostat a chance to operate amongst other things and get the fresh water more thoroughly thru the cooling cavities.

yep as above

new yammie 60 4stroke and can flush either way. dont run motor unless you use muffs though, just straight flush if you are using the adaptor. make sure the adaptor cap is screwed correclty back onto its mount or water will spew out.
however, hot flush (motor ) will help to disolve the salt so use this method if time has ellasped from ramp to home.
