wind knots question..confused

I have been trying to piece together on information given regarding wind knots.

One thing that keeps coming up is the size of the reels in spool size and I’ve seen that stradics are showing this problem,If I got that right part right, I’m not sure.
The main question is are wind knots created by a combination of thin line (braid)or small spool size that the line is wound on to.

Asking this as a general question for all brand spinning reels.

All spinning reels will put some sort of twist in your line, it's unavoidable. The majority of the time it is not the reels fault directly, but the angler not doing the right thing.

Small spools require more loops of line to come off the reels to get the same distance as a larger reel, thus create more twist. Now days most reels have a sophisticated management system to reduce the need for anglers to manage the line themselves.

There are a few problems that will bring about wind knots. The first is over filling the reel. With braid its best to have about 1.5mm between the line and your spool lip. The reason for this is braid can be spring and is much more willing to come off the spool and when a spool is over filled there's no friction stopping a few loops of line coming off the spool early creating a knot. Another cause can be the line not being packed tightenough allowing the line to jump off the spool. Finnaly i've found that manually closing the bail arm and make sure that first wind of line on to the reel is under some pressure will greatly reduce wind knots because the line isn't loosely packed on the reel. I’ll just bring this stradic reel up again.
Somewhere here or another forum I recall a thread that said something about changing reels..Now I can’t remember which one of the two worked ..
The cure for the guy was moving to the later model stradic FI 2000 reel or moving onto a the larger FI 2500 reel.
Which simply solved his problem.

I have always spooled the new line on very tight ,be it mono or braid.
But I use a few different types of reels and brands in 2000 and 3000 size.
The reason that I’m asking this is cause I have always used mono on the small reels and now put some braid on .
I don’t want to go out for the first time and end up getting a big mess,as I have never had a problem in larger 4000 size reels and braid.

wind knots

Reel size has very little to do with wind knots. I've had them on my 1000 size bream reel through to my 6500 size surf reel.
At the end of the day it comes down to how tight the line is laid back onto the spool.
Often during a retrieve, or just after the cast, you get loose line being wound back onto the spool, ie there is no direct tension from the rod tip to the lure.
The loose line is laid onto the spool and then during the next cast it is dragged off with the main body of line being cast. Hence a tangle, or wind knot, is created.
Greater awareness of the line tension as it is being wound onto the spool will lead to eliminating the problem. I very rarely have problems anymore, but sometimes you just can't help it in a crazy session.

spot on there ricko, I like to chuck a long cast out every so often and just wind it back in with tension to reseat the line on the spool
