The new Saltiga is red!!! I couldnt find any specs on it, but it looks like a slightly faster version of the Expdition (probably just a different paint job and gear).

The SOLs didnt appear to be any different, but there is now a 4000 size.

A new addition is the Heartland series of spin reels, priced just above the SOL.

There is also the Infeet 2004 reel and a couple of rods desgined to match it.

Daiwa seems to be designing a range of rods for each of its reels, there are Exceller rods, SOL rods, Infeet rods, Luvias rods and new cosmetics for many of the existing rods.

AND if you dig a little deeper thy have got 2 new spinning reels in the Zaion Format..new Fuego which im about to build a rod for ready for one to hit my door step. US market only so far as i tried to get 1 in Japan and had an unhappy shop keep tell me he cant sell them as they are not a JDM...

and the big hush is around a possible new Presso also in the zaion format...ive seen pics of it but there is still a cloud around weather it will be mass produced...

and thats the reason i want 1 for my Stalker...6' 1-2kg rod..teenie reel..sweeeeeeeeeet !

plus i need to get 1 because Station has the old model on his stalker and rubs my nose in it ... and im feeling left out

Oh yeah, been paying close attention to all this Zaion business for a bit now.

The new Fuego is basically the Luvias with a few differences. Deeper spool, red sideplates, spool colours, and handle. Honestly, it's colour scheme is a shocker. Should have kept the red and silver of the old one. I love the idea of the deeper spool, and one possible difference I see from this is a change from the aluminium spool shaft. I suspect a steel shaft would be used (cheaper, stronger?). Anyone who's seen my drivel and discussion with others on TackleTour will no doubt realize that the lack of deeper small spools and the use of fine shafts really does not sit well with my confidence in pushing gear really hard, nor using them in situations where it'd be bream one cast and possibly a GT on the next. Also need the line capacity for using heavier (8lb) braid.

The new Presso, apparently is in production, but not released yet. These, IMHO, are production prototypes, not design prototypes, which are probably meant for the tackle testers and consultants. However, this reel, for me, is a cosmetic GRAND SLAM!!! A six, clean out of the ground. As JDM as you can get, geared for pure finesse fishing.

Perrie, your Fuego red rod should be a treat to see.

The extras from the new Fuego should be interchangeable with the Luvias, and the deeper spools are a bonus. In addition, the capability of the 1003 to take the 2000 and 1500 spools is great. Which leads to my next little adventure: I am tricking out my birthday present (thanks Brian/Ranger 619VS!!), a Luvias 1003. Strip down, full service, also repaint and go hunting for some upgrade parts. The 1000 and 1500 spools from the US Fuego will fit, and I found yesterday the 1500 and 2000 spools from a couple other Daiwas will fit nicely too. Now, if they did the 40mm machined handle in the same finish as the Steez.......

I am also interested to see what they unveil with these new Heartlands. By all accounts they sound VERY schmick. The new high performance corrosion resistant bearings sound good too. Waiting......

yeah saw you nattering on TT Shortlite...all good !

as fo rthe interchangable spools..that is a masive bonus..the only downside is you loos a lot of cosmetics by doing so as, take the new Fuego for instance..its primarily a dressed up Luvius, your right they should have painted the body red like the old model as the lack of red on the reel sorta doesnt stand up t the Fuego name...might have to break out the air brush are trick it up !

as for the Presso...you dead right SL..she is a stunner !

just out of interest what paints do they use for after market dress up of the bodies ???

You mean the custom ZPI paint and the Zest paint, well those I think are automotive urethanes, with automotive clear.

Speaking of airbrushing, it's getting close to that time for my Luvias. Only to find the sideplate is aluminium, and bugger if I can be arsed with proper prepping (main reason i didn't repaint my Biomasters). So kinda stuck, as I have stripped most of the silver off the Zaion. The Zaion itself looks rather like a rod blank!!

Yes, you do lose cosmetics, but then again, that depends on what look you are after. And, if it's not anodizing on the spools, and just paint, then that's nothing a little Citristrip or oven cleaner won't fix
