Paelamons and cracking

I love paelamons and they are an awesome little lure and one of the lures i pick up almost instantly when fishing a hardbody.. but yesterday while fishing with Drew from this site i was casting around a brand new never used before gold paelamon.. after one hour of work it had prolly hit a pylon bout.. 4..5 times.. (damn me for being TOO accurate) and then it hit a pylon for the last time and snapped the head clean off... are they supposed to be so weak?? ive used other lures that really do look like be super gentle material and they have handled worse conditions and harder fishing then this lure.. anyways.. heres a pic of the end result.. took the hooks and splitrings off.. heh, noticed the eyelets for the splitrings are screwed in picture frame eyelets. just really small

Looks to me like the blank was sawn out of the wood with the grain running in the wrong direction. The grain should be more parallel to the body. Paul Kneller is a member here, although he doesn't post much. His nickname is deception, give him a PM and ask him about it.

G'day Zeeke.
Well congratulations. That is the first broken Palaemon I have ever seen in 4 years of making them ( There could be more but I have never seen any). As for those screw eyes I have been using them in the manufacture of my lures for nearly twelve years, they don't pull out!. It certainly looks like the grain is on a bit of a weird angle and it could have got a small crack in it during manufacture. Hey one reject in four years, I bet Holden would be happy if only one of their cars were returned for warranty in that time and they have a "slightly" bigger budget than me. But here is the best thing about buying Australian fishing lures. Send it back to me and I will replace it, hell since it is the first I will give ya two!. Drop me your address in a personal e-mail and I will post them to ya. Regards Paul.

hehehe, no knocks here from me about the palaemons, i really do like them, they have outfished other lures in the exact same colour and ill still continue to use them, they are a great lure and ive used them in some extremely snaggy areas and still managed to swim it out comfortably.. not many lures can do that for me.. i was just worried about there cracking, its seemed to have cracked right in the mouth of the bib.. so your right, might have just been a crack in the grain.. thanks for your reply

Hi Tim

If you bang your head on the pylon a couple of times it will probably crack as well.

I wouldn't be to hard on the lure. it doesn't matter what brand it is, no lure performs too well when met with a solid object. I've smashed a heap of lures over the years on rocks, pylons, wharves, tree's even a car (don't ask) . The only one to blame is me, I wouldn't go blaming a lure manufacturer for my bad casting.

i wasnt blaming the lure manufacturer at all, was just curious if its happened to others.. ive got a couple of other palaemons that are absolute buggered now .. where ive smacked them into oysters, pylons.. boats.. and jettys.. and they havent cracked like this one, im still gonna keep buying palaemons, hell, i bought 8 more today.. have nearly got every colour cept the 3 new metallic finish ones.. its actually the first lure ive actually ever broken.. but yea, ill still keep using them, they have a tight little wiggle that just out performs other lures in the same colour.. i was using a gold scorpion 35 in the same colour as the broken palaemon.. it didnt even get looked at.. put the gold palaemon on.. and you could litterally see bream out and wack it.. and that is the exact reason ill keep using them.. i doubt someone could make a lure better then these..
