I dont think it would work personally unless you are burning the lure.
If I was getting small hits on the lure I would pause the retrieve, so the stinger would drop and not really where you need it. I would personally try different retrieve and maybe dab a bit of scent onto the lure. The fish are obviously not on the job so either attract the fish to hit, or jerk the lure around to piss it off into hitting. Makre sure you have sharp hooks as well. If you wanted to try the whole stinger thing some metal wire rig would be needed to attach to your lure. But I would think it isnt worth the trouble.

Im pretty sure trailing hooks are illegal, not sure about your state, but my stance is that if its not in the lure in case of plastics, or attached directly to a towing eye in case of HB's then its morally wrong. You risk damaging the fish so much more and will probably end up with more snags too.
If you getting small hits on the retrieve, then pause the hb and twitch it after a hit to make it seem injured or dying. That can usually turn a fish on to attack with more gusto. Or downsize your hb and hooks to go with it. |
