new 1000 size reel?

hi guys,

looking at upgrading my 2500 stradic this weekend to a 1000 sized reel, so far was planning on getting the stradic 1000, but was wondering what else is good for under about $275 in that size? going to be using it on a 1-3kg 6'6" t-curve with 4lb line (not sure of brand atm - have been using nitlon - but ive been getting a lot of knots with it, might try something else).

any suggestions??

and ur nitlon braid, im getting the same trouble with the knots.
its driving me crazy.
thinking of going bak to fireline.

i bit the bullet and got one of the new Stradi 1000's over all im pretty impressed, was running 4lb nitlon on it as well and only suffered minimal embarresing 'ah crap' moments as i was throwing unweighted plastics...

also hve teh Tiera in the 1500 not a lot bigger than the stadi...best bet is to take a few ideas frm here , then go to your locla with you rod and strap a few reel sto them in your budget and have a wave...

as for the nitlon i have since gone up to 6lb for the majority of my work. the slight diam. increase seems to make it behave alot better...

How would you compare the 6lb nitlon to 4lb fireline, can you afford to go up a few extra pound when changing to a better quality braid??? does it cast as good or better.

the new stradics are magic i got a couple of the 1000's and i cant fault them.

i run 3 lb Fireline where i use it...bit thinner than 4lb and you can feel the difference between the 2 when you cast...for ultralight work the braid / nitlon performs better over all i think, for general (weighted SP's 40mm up HB's poppers ect, the fireline (thermally fused) is fine...

around racks i will use Fireline..1 because its slighly thicker it has better abrasion resistance and very under rated so overthight drags are manageable
AND when you get smashed consecutivly fireline is a tad cheeper to replace ! lol

everywhere else i wil use a mix or 4 or 6 lb braids
as i have mentioned i was using exclusivly 4lb BRAIDS but have changed over to 6lb for most of my work simply because slight increase in diamiter make it more user friendly i feel...casts the same as 4lb most of the time, you can pull a bit harder if need be, ripping lure of snag' is a lot better with the extra poundage, does get affected as much in the wind...and holds a better knot when bumping to a heavier leader where needed

I'd suggest going the Stradic 1000. I've got one of the new ones and LOVE it. I've tried a few other reels but always ended up selling them - they just didn't do it for me.
I also found that as soon as I went away from the fused braid to "true" braids (non-fused - like PE-type of braids), and just made sure I maintained line management, the knots virtually stopped - made a HUGE difference for me.
...and they fit really nice on the T-Curve (I've got 2 now). The balance is great. You can throw it all day. You will really notice the difference stepping down in size from the 2500.
As said previously, take some hints from here, and then go in to the shop and play with them. After all, it is your personal choice.

I'd probably suggest a look at the twin powers, you can get them at a reasonable price now. I have a couple of these reels and i reckon there awesome. Have a look at MO tackle they have fairly descent pricing on these reels.

so whats the benifit of the twin power over the stradic? i realise that its a bit more expensive, which is the reason im asking the question - how much better is it than the stradic, and is it (or a similar reel) worth the extra money? heading down this arvo mabey to have a look at some, just trying to get some opinions first so i know what to look for. will also take the rod down as well, thanks for that tip.

also i have tried the tierra when i got the 2500 stradic (tried the 2000 tierra i think), just felt a lot looser than the stradic, like not as solid, but it was lighter which may be why. not sure how much difference the smaller size is, but will have a look. still getting used to the t-curve (only used it a couple of times - an upgrade from a 7'6" 2-4kg bream finesse raider rod), and i think the smaller (lighter) reel will balance it a bit better.

Hey buddy,

I think that the twin powers run the similar gear to the sustain or something along the lines of that, but don't quote me. The best thing you could do is just go to the tackle stores and have a go at both of them. Your going to be the one using it and paying for it so just have a go. Other option is have a look on the shimano website.

Personally i haven't tried the 1000 series reels as i prefer the balance of the 2500 series shimano reels and the versatility of greater drag allowance and ability to use upto 12lb braid with a reasonable capacity.

I have a Twin Power 2500FB on a T-Curve Tournament 2-4kg. I originally bought a Daiwa Capricorn 1500 for it and really didn't like the real in the end for a number of reasons. I then went looking at a Luvias to suit but after trying a range of reels I just like the Twin Power for its feel more than the Luvias, Sol etc. I nearly bought the Sustain but just backed of because of the $400 cost.

Now looking at the MO TACKLE costs i am just about to order a 2500 and 4000 Sustain.

I have also learned in life that generally if you buy cheaper the life span is often a lot less But not always the case.

But these are just what suits my liking.

I've used both the 2500 twin power & the stradic 1000 on my t curve and have found them to be great i have 6lb sensor td on both my reels

I mainly use the twin power on the tcurve and use this combo for throwing hardbodys and when I have to throw hevier weighted plastics

well i tried both the twin power and the stradic, as well as a cheaper daiwa (cant remember the model) and so far im hooked on the stradic. the twin power does feel a little bit smoother, but theres not much in it at all to justify the higher price. also i like how the stradic screws straight into the gears - where i dont think the twin power does that. reason thats an issue is my 2500 stradic i have has a lot of play in the handle now, which ive been told wont be an issue with the new ones because it screws into the gears. would that be from overloading the reel (fish too big, cast too much weight?) or by overtightening the side screw? is there a way to fix this? as i still want to use the reel - good size imo for bigger stuff.

so yea, will probably pick up the stradic monday, just gotta decide on the line lol.

New TwinPower hasn't made it over here yet. No comparison: new Stradic has ARC, direct engage handle, Paladin, etc. Old TP still has the old spool, slide in handle.
