Spin Reels
Hey,
I am also looking to buy a small spin reel. I want to use it mainly for anything from bream and even salmon. I know this because I currently have a Shimano Slade 1000FB and i have pulled up many big Salmon. I want a 1000 sized reel or less in the price range of $300 or less. I don't really mind what brand it is, just as long as it is good. Any reccomendations will be apperciated. Cheers DaiwaFreak |

Judging by your name you want a Luvias 1003. A bit out of your price range here, but can be landed from o/s for that price.
Or if you want to stick to Shimano, the 08 Twinpower 1000 is about the same cost.

Stradic 1000FI is a terrific reel and should be around $200. That way you can get 2 spools of braid and only exceed your budget by a little bit.
I'd personally get that, and a braid for pure bream fishing such as Unitika Aorika PEII, which is just amazing to fish with, but is a bit light on in the spool length (90m is usually enough but hey) then go for something that comes in a larger length on the other spool, maybe Sunline Super PE or the like.

The smaller reels from Daiwa and Shimano should suit your needs. For under 300 there are a few to consider. Add JDM options from overseas and you should be able to get going easily.
Luvias 1003 from o/s will set you back about 280. Very shallow spool, limited capacity. Also have to take a bit of care with the spool shaft. Shimano 08 Biomaster 1000 is also 200 from o/s. The older Biomasters are still available and offer good performance as well. So do the Ultegra series. Lower models are also in place. Shimano Stradic, Shimano Saros, Daiwa Tierra, Daiwa Exceler+ are all good options. The smaller Caldia Kix, and the TD Sol are also options, lets not forget the Advantage, D.Redback also. As for Shimano here, the Symetre, Nexave etc, but you do get what you pay for. For a good reel that'll last a long time and perform well you'd be looking in the 180-300 range. |

Hey,
Thanks for all of the advice. I will consider all of those reels. However, does anybody know if there are any good spin reels going to be released at ICAST 2008, if there is I would wait. Cheers DaiwaFreak |

Yeah, ICAST will be a good heads up on what's coming for the next year. Bear in mind that what's released at ICAST a sometimes isn't in production yet, and could take a few months to hit the market. I am particularly interested in Daiwa's offerings as there is a rumour of a deep spool 1000 in the runnings. Probably for the US market, so we may not see it here (for a while anyway). With the current exchange rate, if it's a reality and it catches the eye, there may be a willing guinea pig here.
