Baitcasting Reels

Hey,

I am looking to buy a low profile baitcasting reel, I want a reel that can be used for most things such as bream or other species that take lures. Does anybody have any thoughts? I am looking at Shimano Baitcaster reels since I have had quite a few and i have found them to be good. Most of them are round baitcasters though, the only low profile reel that I have owned is a Shimano Coriolis. I am looking at a price range of about $200ish. I dont want to spend that much money on a reel since I am not that pro yet. Yeah, any reccomendations would be helpful.

Cheers

Judging by your name you are a true admirer of Daiwa gear.
Daiwa make some very good baitcasting reels in your budget. A good choice would have to be the Team Daiwa Advantage super tuned model. You could potentially buy one off ebay for about 160 and delivery isn't much these days.

Abu Garcia Revo

Hey,

Thanks for the quick reply danpachi, i shall consider the Team Daiwa Advantage. However, does anybody currently have an Abu Garcia Revo Inshore? I have heard so many good things about this reel and i may consider it. Is it good for casting?

Cheers

The Revo Inshore is very popular in the US. I'd save up for a Curado 100 if you want something small or a 300 if you want something to really dish out the punishment to the big fish. I fish mine with 30lb braid, it casts very well when you learn about the VBS braking and has the capacity to troll for pelagics and inshore jig.

Shimano Curado

Hey,

Thanks for the suggestions. The Shimano Curado is great and is definately on my list now. However, I also want to know if the new 2008 Models are any better, because, i would be willing to spend a bit more to get a better and newer reel.

Cheers

www.Tackletour.com

You can read about the new Curado E's there.
Batcasters aren't the best for the generally smaller lures used when fishing for bream. However, there are a few models that do well with light gear. The Daiwa Liberto Pixy, and the Alphas come to mind. The Shimano Scorpion is also one for lighter gear.

While you are at Tackletour, have a read on the forums and search away. There's a ton on info there if you are willing to spend the time and look. Also free to join if you want to post and ask further questions.

The new Curado and the Citica don't look that good. But they must be pretty good quality if they are made in Japan. I will probably wait till ICAST 2008 to see what new reels are available.

Thanks for all of the info,

DaiwaFreak

Any other eccomendations are welcome...
