I bought an Airity from interstate, and straight out of the box it had a noisy gear case. I needed it for a Tournament in 3 weeks. Through the retailer I contacted someone from the distributor from the state of purchase, and they drove it for me. I was promised a 4 day turnaround that did not happen. After about 3 phone calls to Daiwa (who just lied to me), I contacted the distributor and told him I either wanted it replaced or a full refund. My reel was air freighted to me overnight, and arrived the day before I left for the Tournament.
Contact the retailer and find out who your local distributor is, then let them know what you think of Daiwa service, and that in future you will buy overseas. It worked for me
Cheers,
Andy

Daiwa dont have the best reputation for stuff like this. We sometimes wait months for rods and reels to come back from Daiwa.

Solution: Buy Shimano hehe, had to be said, but lets not open that can of worms.

I had a few problems with a Sol reel, and to be fair the reel had been abused.

I sent it direct to Daiwa servicing in NSW after speaking to them via the number on the website. Within 4 days of them recieving it they could not find the problem so they sent me a brand newy complete with an extra spare spool. I had it back in my hands within 7 days of sending it.

All up it cost me $5 freight and no one ever asked me for proof of purchase.

My experience has been good. Maybe its just the local distributors.

I have a Twinpower that is having a few problems. I baught it secondhand so the warrenty technically doesnt apply to me (which doesnt really make sense to me). Are Shimano going to help me out? I hope so, I know Daiwa would.

i had a daiwa luvius (old model) and after about 4 months it felt really rough.
(seems they dont like mangrove jack to much lo)
sent it back to daiwa and it came back but nothing had changed.
the local tackle store let them know i wasnt to happy and i was apgreded to a certate for another $50!
very happy with my certate and it has caught everything from monsted bream to big jack.
i now have a few daiwa reels and never had a prob.
just roomers but i was told that daiwa only had 1 guy doing the servicing and repairs???

Nothing wrong with their reels, but their service dept. does not have a great reputation, although it looks like some have been well looked after.
In my case I posted directly to Daiwa, and on each time I phoned, I got apologies, and was told mine was next job in line, I'd have it in a couple of days. When I eventually got them stirred up (via the distributor), I was told they only had one service technician, and he had just come back from 3 weeks leave. In other words they lied to me
On the plus side, they air expressed the reel back to me and I had it by 11.00 the next morning.
Cheers,
Andy

Dave,
For out of warranty service work, I use Geoff Simmons (The Reel Doctor).
If you contact "Hook Up Bait & Tackle" in Ferntree Gully, they will give you his contact details. Geoff's been in the business for years and does a great job, and he's quick
Cheers,
Andy

Daiwa vs Shimano reels aside, the service in my experience is MUCH better with Shimano than with Daiwa. I Stuffed up my brand new Curado 300 by leaving the spool tension done up so tight it was holding 100gram jigs in place (not a good idea) and got sent a brand new one within a week!

As for claiming warrenties, we never worry about proof of purchase at work, if you have a problem, bring it in, whether it was bought from us or not.

Alex try ringing Daiwa, if you havent already.
I just did and have a new Exist 2004 arriving Monday.
They didnt get all the background info on the reel, all 2 weeks of it, from the tackle store. All it had was a note "fix knock"
I explained politely what had happened and he was very good about the whole thing.

Usually Diawa have been very good with my servicing. I had 6 Exists done with in 2 weeks, sent the next lot in and had them back in 3. They even notified me the second lot was going to take a little longer as there was a small back log of reels to be done.

Shimano

Hi,

I agree with all of the people who say that shimano is better, they are much more relaible, i have used many shimano products for most of my life and i have never had to send any of them back.

Cheers
