Use either !!

Depends what and where you are fishing. Can you give us some details on your location, where you normally fish etc.

Mate i dont think their is a BEST lure, ive good quality fish on $15 lures and also $2 lures, its all in the way you fish them, and knowing the spots that hold fish. The best way is to get out there and dont be affraid to experiment with different lures, retreives, lines etc. Keep you lures small in the sub 5cm range and you should be in with a bream

Lures to start with:
Paelemons
Oar-Gees
Sliders
2" Single tails.

Youl be broke from here on end

Forget the plastics then unless you've got an income that can support losing bulk tails to the blowies.

I disaggre, plastics have been fishing very well downstream and now that the water is dirtying up plastics would be my first choice down there.

Last winter all the big bream caught came on plastics....

Really you need to have a good range of plastics and hard bodies.

Hey I got my fish bream on a lure at claremont yacht club...my friend said he saw one in there so i just dropped it (soft plastic) and hooked one haha, does that count?

Anyway there are lots of big bream in there but we'r not really suppoesd to go in there. You cuold probably get away with fishing for a few hours before getting kicked out. But the most important thing is location....i was there for almost an hour before with no chance since I was just casting into an open pen until my friend came along and showed me where the bream were so....fish with someone with experience!

about what type of lure i dont really know, but I think sp's are easier at first since u can go deeper and get them to trickier places that hb's cant get to

I think the best and cheapest lure when first starting out are the ones that come out of a mates tackle box.

smilin jacks raw prawn

it would have to be the cheapest HB lure that works just as good (if not better at times) as the more expensive ones because its cheap you wont be as disapointed when you lose it they catch fish so give them a go

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear...

If your just getting started wassa, and are only going to spend $10 bucks initially, a hard body may be a little more economical amongst the blowies down claremont way.

If you can afford a couple of packs of jigs and some plastics then by all means go for it. The softies may also allow you to get a bit deeper if fishing against the pylons.

Just be aware that you may get munched using plastics irrespective of their effectiveness. If you are young and getting your folks to buy you some gear then be wary of this. If you are older and have an income of some form then by all means buy the plastics if the guys reckon they are working well.

Hopefully this clears up my initial post.

Warren.

One thing I do recommend to guys starting out is to get a few Oargees. The thing I like about them is that they force you to slow down your retrieve. A good habit to get into.

From there, go for your life.

Good one Tony - that's why I always con my buddies into buying lures I don't have

Why not buy a breammaster plastics starter pack. Lots of variety of colors and a few jigheads, will certainly get you going!
Scorpions and Oargees are always a good start for hardbodies!!

I Agree Beefman

The starter pack give you a good range of plastic admitedly they are twin tails but still good value for money. I reckon a good all rounder lure would be a Halco Scorpion 52 in gold and orange. From there just conqure each brand and colour!
