You only really need 150m of braid, maybe Finns or the new Suffix, but if you have got a fat wallet you might want to look at TD tournament or the Bass Hard braid.

I'd give the fireline a miss pwersonally. And IMO you might as well get a 300yd spool, just so you can use the reel for multiple purposes (like for queenfish up north or salmon etc etc where the extra line can save you a lost fish). 4lb Fins would be my pick of the bunch, but I'd also be considering Nitlon PE, even though it's had a bad record with some people.

I can't see whats wrong with fireline.....

It seems a lot of people try braids (which aren't designed for egg beaters) and just end up going back to fireline...

I rarely get tangles using fireline.... But i guess that comes back to what gear you are using.

Why pay $70 for a spool of braid when you can get firline for less than half the price

A 125 yard spool will be fine. You may wish to put some mono on as backing.

exacly right eddy...

ive tried BassHard PE, SuperBraid,Finns etc but still have always gone back to fireline. its the strongest out of most braids but its a braid you have to run in because its quite stiff to begin with. i personally have 3lb crystal on all my spools and love it.

Cheers Dan

Dan,

Funny you say that as i just spooled up with 3lb crystal today. Good stuff i reckon

I have used the 6lb a heap and find its very good. The 3lb will cast a mile

I'm not saying fireline shouldn't be considered....just personally i wouldnt use it. It's tried and tested and it works. the benchmark against which all other braids are compared (how many times have you heard 'better than fireline' or 'not as good as fireline').

Double uni is good as long as it is tied properly. Same rule applies with the albright knot. I tie a bimini in the braid and use the loop to tie a uni with as if tieing a uni onto a hook. Got it from Rossco32.

As for length, I use about 1 foot less than the rod length, so about 5'6 length of leader. I don't like the knot passing through the line roller. As I go through lures, the length shortens until I have about 2 feet left. Any less than two feet and I re-tie the whole leader. That usually lasts me a day worth of fishing.

That should be fine. I use a long leader, usually around 7' with about 4' of it being Yo-Zuri Hybrid then the bit closest to the lure being Fluro. I only do this coz it saves money on flurocaron and the YZ is pretty low vis too.
