hey mate,

a few things, what sort of line have ya got on there, what lures do you mainly use and how much line have ya got on your spool.

cheers
Tim

buy a daiwa
thats the only thing i have against the stradics is there linelay, hence why i use daiwa reels.
seriously though if you having alot of trouble with it not laying line properly and tangling try adding or removing the spacers that fit onto the main shaft of the stradics, it should have come with extras to adjust linelay.
other than that your best bet is every 3-4casts put your line between two fingers and wind it on under tension and then repeat after another few casts, this should keep the line tightly rapt on the spool and reduce wind knots and tangles caused by line flying off too loosely on casts.
its also worth getting your line put back on the spool with a line spooling machine, most tackle shops should do that free of charge, this will get the line back on nice and tight and even.
hope this helps
im sure some shimano users will have some tips for you that should help a bit more

i got 4 Stratics and dont have a problem with line going on the spool with any of them EXCEPT when the line is new... but i think you would expect that with all reels.
