Strike Pro- Pygmy II

G'day,
Today I went out looking in the tackle stores for some Sx40's, alot of people have recommended that I buy some of these as they are top lures and bring out the goods.
I couldn't find any, but stumbled across some Strike Pro Pygmy II's, they look alright and have some great colours.

I was talking to the bloke that owns the tackle store and he said that the Pygmy's are an imitation of the Sx40, is this true.

They're "Suspending", I've never used a suspending lure before and I was wondering what technique(s) I should use for them.

There was another Strike Pro lure I was looking at, it was a "Small Fry II", I think. I was wondering if anyone has used these and had any success?

I bought two of the Strike Pro Pygmy's because I don't know if they're any good and I might have been wasting my money, one of them is a nice white with a bright pink top. The other one is yellow with black spots and green on the top. They've both got awsome hooks, I don't think they'll need replacing, wich is good.

What is your opinion on this lure and what technique(s) should I use for them, if you've got some pictures of Bream that you have caught with either a Pygmy or Small Fry please post, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Nugget.

The strike pro pygmy II is sort of like an sx40, but i would prefer the strike pro. These lures are great and they are my main bream lure. Also they are much cheaper.

Might have to invest in some more of them, sounds like their a good little lure. Twice as cheap as the Sx40 too.

not sure if they have upgraded the hooks on them recently but if they are the small chrome VMCs i would be changing them, they are very sharp but hook them into something and pull and see how easily they bend, dont want to loose a biggun to cheap hooks and they rust badly.
the pygmys are nice little lures, ive got a few and cant wait for the banks to start firing to give them a run

Yeah, definately change the hooks, and keep them small. I have tried them with slightly larger hooks and they lose most of their action.

Like I said when I replied to your PM, the pygmy's are good. I think the sx40's are better, but there is no denying that the Pygmy's still catch fish, and they are definately cheaper.

Remember though, there is a couple of places around Adelaide where you can pick up sx40's for less than $16, and a pygmy + hooks works out to around $12 anyway.

I dont have any of the small fry's, but one guy that I fish with gets fish on them often enough. You will need to change hooks on them too.

Good colour for Bream and stockies. Owner hooks can turn hits into hook-ups

If I could catch as many fish as the pro's I would tell you colour doesnt matter. All I can say is it doesnt matter to me.

I pick the lure with the sharpest trebles. If you arent using sharp ones, you better be a good fisherman

Catching as much as the pro's do would be nice, just doesn't happen that way most of the time

Sharp trebels are always handy, the ones that the Pygmy's have are really nice. Can't wait to land a few Bream on them, can't go out tomorow and give them a go unfortunatley, hopfully next weekend.

Thanks again Yellow Door 1,

Nugget.

Dude - I'll only say it twice - standards may be nice - but owners are twice as nice .

If they're owners - thats good. I havent got any Gen 2 pygmy's so I wouldnt know.

from what I used to know about the Pygmy's - their hooks were very sharp but very brittle - they beefed them up recently but I dont know what with - if they are silver be wary.

Aw, Dang!

Yes, their silver lol.

I'll go down tomorrow and get some, I've got some customer credit to use up anyway, might get the trebels for free

Can only hope I get them for free

They got a new range of owner jigheads and trebels in today aswell allong with some Squidgie Finesse jigheads, s'posed to be for shallow water plastics fishing. Got no weight to them at all, sound cool. Don't know how they'd go when it comes to casting them though...

Nugget.

Re: Aw, Dang!

hate to say i told you so... those trebles are weak even on the pygmy II's

i can cast resin heads a mile with 4lb fireline so you shouldnt have to much trouble with that 2lb mono your using, wont get the same distance but id say you will be able to cast them

I cast unwighted platics on my outfit with ease, 15m or so is usually plenty fot my style of breaming, i can punch em out a long way with the breeze behind me. Not too sure how you'd go casting with mono though, the lines memory makes it harder to cast light weights.
