Symetre 2500

Heh guys. I have been looking for a reel to target the snapper. I want to load the reel with 8-10lb braid. I looked up the shimano symetre on their website and it states that the 2500 has a max drag of 15lbs. Does anybody know if this is true or has anybody done a test on this reel.
I have also been looking at the stradic, exceler and tierra. Are any of these reels suitable.

Thanks Ben

The Symetre 2500 is a quality reel and I would stick with it. My friend owns a 2500 and I've heard nothing but pro's. My friend (by memory) uses 12lb Platypus Super Braid in High-Vis Yellow and 25lb Platypus Super 100 in clear as a leader. This should hold up fine against snapper.

If you can afford it, go the Tierra or Stradic, both got a few more specs than the other reels. Having said that if you dont feel like spending the extra $$ the Exceler has been very popular, I havent heard much about the Symetre but that's probably a good thing coz bad news always comes first.

Hi fishoben,

I'm pretty happy with my Symetre 2500. I have it spooled with 8lb fireline which I use to target pinkies (and snapper when they are about).

Regards
Grant

15lb drag might be what it could be able to put out but you wouldn't get much 30-45lb braid on it and it wont be smooth... i've got one and the drag isn't super smooth when its up tight... but handles 10lb braid fine so really your only using 3lb of drag
