hitting the wall pt.1

i have noticed over the past few months since the site has been up & running that people have had a steep learning curve in regard to bream spinning but have noticed quite a few people are now hitting the wall in regard to results, which i presume the majority of people are after when they go fishing.most people now know what lines, rods, reels, lures etc are being used & have a general idea of where to go.i know you cant run before you can walk & you have to put in the yards to to get the results but have noticed it seems to be a minority of fishos who get the majority of the results.i'm not moaning about this as these people have spent a lot of time & money getting it wired.there seems to be a fair few people who fish 1,2,3 times a week by themselves & struggle getting results, not thru lack of effort but just with technique & some of the "finer" things that are required to land a fish or 2.

This is all true, however some of us that are doing ok do not get to fish that often.I personally have not been out on our boat since the comp. The last boaters day I opted to step aside so that someone else could go for a fish in our boat. I ended up taking my daughter for a shore based fish, which only lasted about an hour and a half. I managed 2 fish 1 Bream and a nice flathead. The following day was also a shore based fish, which was the 23rd March. I still managed to land 4 bream and a flathead, in about 3 hours. That was my last fish. I can't fish this weekend either as my daughter is not well. With reghard to what we did shore based, was to move around lots and try different spots as we would do in the boat. I also used different types of retrieves and lures. Anyone can succeed, it is just a matter of pursuing and stalking out the fish. Looking for where the best spots might be, if it doesn't work, move on. Exactly the same as in the boat.

All the West Aussies that use this site are more than happy to take others on their boats, so those who do not have a boat do not miss out. The opportunities are there for all who want to improve and we are a pretty friendly bunch. Send PM's to the people catching fish and they will be only to happy to share their knowledge, whether it be shore based, such as Kingpin or water based such as Geoff, Bear, JP, Me and all the others.

Cheers

Mim

Hey Bear, wanna move to Geelong?
You WA fishos are lucky having someone as generous as Bear and some of the other boaters over there who organise and participate in the "boaters days" and other sessions that get organised :-)

Yeah i definately agree.
I personally hit a 'Barrier' a while back.
With perserverance you push through it. I can't actually say when it happened, but i'd prolly say just since i've started to fish after my broken leg. The break gave me time to think about things and i spent a hell of a lot of time on here learning things.
Anyways, i started fishing again, and since, i have not gone fishless. I have caught a minimun of three each time!!!
The boaters day and other trips (thanx a lot Bear, Geoff, and JP)
have taught me unbelievable amounts. I think outside the Square, i cast more accurate and i am really enjoying my fishing.
Somehow, get on a boat as i really think it makes the Diference.

I agree with you there Matt a lot of times its the little things that make the difference between getting a few & missing out. I have seen a few of the young guys around here who fish land based lately getting ready to toss in the towel & give up. It varies from area to area but round here at the moment theres just not many decent bream. It will be a different story in 3 or 4 weeks though. In my opinion it is easy to get stuck in a routine when the fish aren't coming & by that I mean just tossing the same old thing be it a hard or soft lure & doing the same retreive etc etc. There is no concentration at all & when a fish comes you miss it. If you think about what you are doing & don't get into fishless routines things always come good. A classic example was where I was fishing this morning , shallow clear water , bright sun & little current. Bream were visible but not interested in all the "standard" plastics or HB's even on 2 kilo trace. Downsizing didn't work either with plastics they even ignored 1" sliders. Time for something different so on with a 3"camouflage Slider with a little split shot on its nose & bang bang bang 3 bream in 3 throws. Remember there are no rules

The true art of Travel

They say that the journey itself is the best part of travelling, so to with fishing I believe. I like some others, am shore based, and except for the one fish I caught out with jimmi and kev on a boating day, I have yet to catch a second fish.

Fishing on ones own when one can, is not as much fun as fishing with friends but perhaps if you view it as practising your art, then it can be a more reflective and constructive time.

I have enjoyed researching all gear I have bought (and there is heaps of it) the reels , rods, hard bodies, soft plastics, also I am building another rod, (which is going really well).

So try looking at the whole exercise as an art, where the practise of the art is reward in itself. It is much less frustrating and more productive.

I may have to try changing to catching Arwana if I am ever going to recoup the out goings, but I am enjoying the whole experience.

I think if you look at the subtext in most of the messages, you will see that the more esoteric rewards are being enjoyed by the majority of the successful anglers.

So maybe embacing the art of angling from a wider point of view than just number of fish caught is actually the means by which one catches more fish.

May I should write a " Fishing Now & Zen " page

regards

Trevor
