the new boat

just wondreing what others are fishing from boatwise.I've been getting serious about a Quintrex 4.2 Dory to be used in rivers estuary and bays. It seems there's a lot lf talk about Edgetrackers ,Hornets and vee nosed punts, so I'm wondering if a flatter bottom is the go or what. Economicly a new Dory with a 25 Honda at about $9000 sounds a lot more attractive than a fully decked out Hornet at over 20 grand - sure I realise I'm not getting the u bueat features, but where to draw the line.
ahhhhh the dilemma.

Thumbs up Hey Al

Mate i have a boat which quite a few of my mates judge all others for stability by, a bit silly really cause my boat is nothing like anything else in the fleet so far.
I went for a fish in Chris Lemess's 3.75 Dory which he fitted out himself with for'ard and aft casting decks and a floor. The dory once you put a floor and decks in it ,is quite a nice little affordable rig in which to kick start your Angling adventures. I would not steer you away from one, I reckon they are an excellent first boat,
talk to Chris he is on this site regularly P.M. him
Regards Geoff "BREAMMASTER STORE"

The v-punt boats give you more stability than a std vee hull does. This has both it's good and bad points.

I'm a big fan of the edgetrackers and find them a bit bigger than the equivalent Quinnie. A lot of it is personal choice though.

If you're interested in the Edgetracker, drop me an e-mail to bear@aussiebear.com. I can send you some prices from there.

Here's the one I had custom fitted here in Perth. Great Breamin boat.

Wierd Al, if you're keen on a Quinnie make sure you give the boys at Millard Marine a call.

Al - Geoff's referring to the 3.75 Dart, which is what I've got , and yes, any standard deep v hull can be kitted out to be a serious bream machine.

I'd take a look at the Edgetrackers myself. The hull is not as deep and is a bit beamier than the Quinnies... Probably the best Quintrex/Stessly comparison is the Explorer vs. the Edgetracker. For myself, I'm sick of getting soaking wet in a small boat, so go for at least a 3.9m craft. Also, I think the E'trackers are worth looking at as they are very stable and can hack the chop as well as a deep V hull.

Ultimately, there is no compromise in terms of a dry ride, stability, rough-weather capabilities ('HORNET' you say?!) AND... price! If you can afford a full kitted out custom Hornet, go for it, but as a first boat, anything can be modified to suit.

There is a huge diff between a Dory & a Hornet for sure but many times people have gone for a Dory type boat then spent plenty of money adding all the things they need to it then still not being happy go & sell it & buy a Hornet or similar. Better going to something with the features you need & want first off. Just remember the golden rules for being a bream fisherman there are only 2 of them so they are easy to remember.

1. Have an open mind!

2. Have an open wallet!

Not sure about just the Hornets Chris, I know there are a few guys VERY keen on the Magnum which Steve Bain designed for Stessl. Once you get up to a certain size I find the Quinnies get expensive.

Big thing is, don't be scared to shop around and try different set-ups.

Heres my tip for buying a boat (or anything for that matter) it all comes down to money, work out how much money you have to spend and then go find the best boat you can for your bucks.

Also to me a 400 trophy Quintrex is good value for money, but like Sean I reckon that once you go bigger than that Quintrext can get pricey. Having said that my brother in laws 455 is awesome to fish out of.

If your in WA and you call Millard Marine and say that it's for the bream comps here they will give you a great price. They have really been looking after guys here so make sure you get a price off them.
