New Team Daiwa Tierra!

Hi guy's,

I just got back from the trade show and thought i would post up a pic of the new "Tierra" from Daiwa. It weighs 15g more than the Sol, but has 7 bearings including 2 crbb's.

Together with funky new looks and colour scheme it slots into the range just near the Sol.

After the success of the Capricorn and the Sol i am sure this is going to be another winner for Daiwa.

Cheers Bunga!

Yes Mish, it does come with a spare spool, and is available in sizes from 1500 to 4000.

Cheers Bunga!

Mish,

Apart from the slight bearing and weight difference i mentioned, line capacity and retrieve ratios are the same.

Full specs will obviously be available over the next couple of weeks as orders head out to shops!

Cheers Bunga..

Probably less. I'm sure it's lower down the scale from the Caldia KIX, etc, but possibly a step up from the Exceler.

Around the $200 mark????

I had a look at them too Bunga. THey're an awesome little reel! Great matt finish on the body, something a bit different which is always good to see. As always, the guys at Daiwa have certainly kept up their quality standards on this little baby!

The middle-end market reels are in this order roughly:

Exceler
CY
Tierra

Then low Top-end or top-middle end sorta:

TD Sol
Caldia Kix

Won't be priced in the same range as the Sol....... surprised if it does.

Just one thing guys...... it's not how many bearing there are, it's where they are. A 5 bearing reel can be hell smoother than a 9 bearing reel, just due to the placement of the bearings.

So, don't look for how many bearings all the time. It's not a good indicator of the performance of the reel.

Whoops, I should add the Exceler is the bottom with the Tierra on top..... put it the wrong way round,

And take ur pick between the TD Sol and Caldia.

5 bearings can be smoother than 9? Okay, I can see how that's possible, but the 9 bearing reel will usually have 5 of those in the same position as the 5 bearing reel.

2 either side of the main drive gear, 1 supporting the oscilllator drive gear, antireverse bearing in the rotor, another bearing below that, 1 (maybe 2) in the bail roller, 1 under the spool for support. That's 6, and most reels these days have 5 out of those 6.

Higher bearing count reel just puts more bearings in different places, eg. in handles, worm gears and idlers, 2 bearings under/in the spool. So it's not just bearing count, you also have to look at the features, and this is usually reflected in the price..

Its also the type of bearings, CRBB being the most expensive. Then there's crap bearings...

the Samurai 7i has 7 bearings compared to the 5 on the Capricorns but I don't have to say which one is better and smoother by a long mile.
