It was a great life

Thanks for that Ira, the amount of times i was paid to do stuff like escape and evade police, live in Pubs, play sport and fish etc was great. If you can put up with the bullshit i highly recomend to any one out there to give it a go.
AH the memories
Cheers Mate Geoff

Yeah. I went to the airport early this morning to see my best mate off. He's gone to Wagga for his primary reserves training. I have a bet of $50 saying he'll be in the full time army within 12 months!!!
Man he is gonna love it!

Poor Bastard

Have you guys ever seen FULL METAL JACKET, i believe it was a film by Stanley Kubrick, brutal, very brutal.
For the next 12 weeks he will be brainwashed, taught to live to the traditions of ANZAC, have his head shaved, bastardised, thrashed physically till he pukes and then told to get up and keep going.
Geezzzzz, I wish i could do it all over again . Seriously it was the best time of my life

This is why my back is stuffed

This pic was taken at the airstrip in Maliana, another border town where we patrolled regularly.
We were being extracted and 5/7 RAR "The Tiger Battalion" took over our Tactical area of responsibility.
A funny but potentially disturbing story, we had to send a platoon to the airfield every time a RAAF Caribou came in to drop off supplies to protect the kids from it.
The town is very third world, and very beautiful and has not had a lot of airplanes land at the strip. The local kids would come screaming out of the jungle and would play a game, "run into the draft caused by the spinning props. The kids only would of weighed 30 kg if that and you could see them leaning forward like you would lean into a stiff breeze. The only thing is they would get very close to the prop and get blown backwards rolling around laughing, it was only a matter of time before one made it, to the prop .
It was funny and scary to watch Ronnie RAAF the Loadmaster panicking as 50 million kids were charging into his airplanes props.
The innocence of kids
Geoff
