New FISHING Book - FISHING WILD
Most would recall Col Roberts Fishing Wild Images that was out a while ago, well he has started a series called Fishing Wild which is out twice yearly. It contains some sensational images and not bad stories either. Has a cracking Jack on the cover and my fav is a pic of Jacks and Spanglies under the Navy Jetty in Exmouth - is insane. Costs $9.95 worth a gander if your in your newsagent.

Fishing for those big browns in Argentina and Chile sound pritty wild and those underwater shots are awsome. |

That Col Roberts is a seriously good photographer, I bought it at lunch and have only had time to read the pictures
Well worth the money. Highly recomend it. Obviously they are confident on selling a few as there is minimal advertising in it, makes it read more like a book. Quality!!!

Yeah, Owen picked it up the other day, and it's a good read, with stunning the pictures. We were drooling over the queenies, jacks and PNG spotted bass.
A great pic is the "wall of death", a water column of big mangrove jacks and spangled emperors, stacked full height, looking REAL hungry!! |

yeah, gotta get my hands on this new mag. for a looksee.
flattered Col approached me for a piece, but with wafm and hotbite i'd be lucky to scrounge an artcle worthy of appearing in what seems like a magic mag. bit of a gamble on Col's part - with so many mags out already it must make it very hard for editors to get good material. without the advent of digi cameras making it so easy for any angler to scratch some good pic's together, i wonder how many mags would survive? the 'wild' element of Col's mag certainly appeals! |

Picked it up at lunch. More than worth the long walk looking for a News Agent with a decent selection

I seen that book in the newsagents yesterday. It is a ripper, and my fave pic is also the Jacks and Spanglies under the naval jetty at Exmouth. I actually have not long returned from working over at Exmouth for 6 weeks, and that naval jetty is closed to the public, but I had daily access to it with my job with the AFP Protective Service. The fish life is absolutely amazing, and big schools of GT trevally were always present, and some of them were easily 30kg.Big cod, tuna, mackeral, and were also commonly seen, and at night the sharks could be seen lurking just outside the light shining on the surface. Walking under the jetty on the walkway was also revealing, with the big jacks just hanging off the pylons, with the odd venus tusk fish also about. I was drooling at all the fish I seen, I was so tempted to smuggle a handline with some poppers with me when I was working. Fishing is prohibited from the jetty. But going by the size of the big trevs I really doubt I would have had much of a chance stopping one. And those Mangrove Jack- wow, some I seen were easily 5kg plus. I didn't see any spanglies though, but going by that brilliant photo, they are there. The jetty is dived by certified dive clubs, and it is rated in the top dive sites in the world. In closing- I was dumbfounded by the variety and amount of fish I was able to see, and is something I will never forget. Chris |
