Berkley Gulp 2"Peeler Crabs
Wondering if anybody is using these soft plastics. Originally brought them to target blue bone in shallow water at islands off Carnarvon (using crab waste as berley). Had planned on fishing them unweighted on HD 6/0 hooks.
Recent trip to mangroves/creeks south of Carnarvon has revealed a heap of bream. These fish seem to sit under mangroves located in creek corners and entrances on run in tides. Small red mangroves crabs are prolific and the Gulp 2" new penny colour crabs are a good match in size & colour. Any suggestion on hooks / rigs specifically aimed at bream appreciated. Cheers |

I would go with a size 2 hook and fish it weightless, only trouble is they sink upside down because of the weight of the hook coming out the top so it might be worth rigging hook down.
I would just flick it as close as possible to the mangroves or snag and if possible even land i ontop of the snag and make it look like a crab falling off it, No real action needed... Also they tend to spiral when winding them back in.

As David said, unweighted, either on a size 1, 2, or 4 Gamakatsu EWG or G-Lock, preferably G-Lock. Another idea is a TT HWS jig in the centre of the crab.
You could wacky rig it, and slowly work it on it's side, like a real crab walks. |

Standard jighead, number 2 hook, in through the bum and out through the head - make sure it's dead center, they have a nice glide on the drop.
