Shimano Sustains....

I notice that quite a number of the serious tournament anglers use Sustains as their reel of choice.
Price wise, the sustains sit pretty much in between the Stella and the Stradics. I've had stradics before and now own a biomaster which is an improved stradic. The stradics are a good, nice, smooth reel in its own right. How much of a jump up is there in the feel and quality of the sustain as compared to the Stradic? How much is the jump up from the Sustain to the Stella?
Do they justify their price tags?

IMO the sustain is a much better reel (better than stradic).
I feel that it sits and feels better on the rod and in my hands. The smaller adjustments in drag settins also add to my liking of this reel. Depending on where you source you reels, the price difference is prolly worth it IMO.

If u had a stradic, then i would say yeah go for an upgrade to a sustain. The sustain are alot better reels. The bios on the other hand are awesome reels for the price and there is not alot of difference between them and the sustain, apart from the $$$$

If really must upgrade i'd say go for a twinpower. they have a metal rotor, unlike the stradic, bio and sustain which have graphite. they are also lighter then the sustain.

I have an unused Biomaster which I thought about selling to upgrade to either a Luvias or Twinpower or sustain. If there's not too much of a difference between a bio and a sustain, I'll either keep it or maybe look to get a Caldia Kix instead. They look great for their price and designed under Real Four...

Which model biomaster do you own Chunqx?

I have the new 05/06 biomaster which doesn't have the "old" one peice handle machine cut handle. This years new release has the folding handle, all silver finish and the one piece SR bail arm with a beefed up drag in the 2000 and up sizes. I also have a current sustain, IMO: the new biomaster is just as good if not better than the current sustains and would not justify the extra $ spent. It is just as smooth and with the new upgrades (waterproof drag, micro-adjusting drag etc.) a better reel i think. Check out the jap sites for more info. I have to admit it looks pretty gay from the photo's but the finish on the reel in real life is awesome considering the price. HTH

p.s. love following you "reel" deliberations Just be-aware that the Kix is made is thailand with some plastic parts. Not sure if that makes a diffy but form all reports i hear, it is a good reel but not as solid as the other daiwas. Can't go wrong with anything made in japan i think. Go the new bio's!

Regards
CT

My bio is the model before that with the slick non-foldable handle. Might just keep the bio then. I think I'm just getting the tackle itch. Its not about the having, its about the getting. Got the bio a few months ago and was pleased as punch. Now the novelty's worn off and the roving eyes have started. And I haven't even used the bio yet!!!
