Depends if your using mono or braid, with my symetre i have the braid about 2 mm from the lip and never have a problem but i always have the line running through 2 fingers in front of reel when retrieving.

Undo the line from yr rod so its just hanging of yr reel. If it coils of quickly theres to much line on there. When it slows down and stops thats pretty much ok, that works for me.

yeh just max it up as much as possible m8. Helps casting and gives you a few more yards so the jewy is on a little longer before he spools ya.

With my old cheapy Shimano I had to have about 2mm of lip showing or line line would coil up on the drag nut really easy if you didn't pay alot of attention when flipping the bail arm over after a cast.
Just got a new Shimano Stradic which I've found can be filled right up with no problems. You can certainly notice a difference in casting. When I bought the reel from AA it got spooled up there for me but I don't reckon he put enough backing on, so I put on another lot of backing myself but a bit more, then the fireline. Has made a bit of a difference in casting distance. Cheers, Noddy.
